Forget about resales on sold out resort small add ons!

I recently bought 50 additional OKW points from Disney, after trying to buy resale.

Most of the available resales were large contracts. A 100 point contract is offered at 83 dollars but some or all of the 2005 point are used.

I also like to keep my June use year for simplicity sake. That is very hard to do when looking for a small add on resale.

There also is the problem of closing costs and inconvenience and delay, so I say, "Forget about resales on sold out resort small add ons."

That works if you are already a member. Some non members are actively hunting those resales just to become a member at some level.

I was thinking about a small add on myself. May I ask what Disney is charging for OKW?

I'm hoping (if and when another DVC project is announced) to buy in & re-sale one of our existing small contracts on the re-sale market @ a profit.

At the very least I plan on challenging the market. Our strategy was several contracts @ different resorts for 11 month advantage, staggered every year or so...seems to be working out well.

Based on our experience, the smaller contracts are more difficult to locate & were the perfect way to get into the system on sold out properties.

The 50 point contract I bought was $92 a point. I got all of the points from 2005 and all of the point from 2006.

I immediately used the 2005, 2006, and 2007 points to increase the number of days I have reserved a Grand Villa at OKW for January.

If you are looking to purchase a smaller point resale contract, you'll need to contact one of the resale companies. That's what we did. When they got one that we wanted, they called and we bought it that same day. Often these smaller point contracts don't even make their website because they get sold so quickly.

Well I called the board sponsor MONTHS ago with my resale request.
One of two things has occured. One is that nothing that meets the criteria has come on the market or two is that I just have not been called. (I actually think two may be a valid thought. I had two use years and two resorts listed with anything under 100 points....) I am also on a waitlist at Disney...

I and many others would not be DVC members if not for the resale markets. We bought our first contract resale, and tried to do a resale add-on that DVC exercised ROFR on. I would always check resales when considering points.

DVC has an advantage in that it can split/combine points that it buys via ROFR and resell them in any size it wishes. (I think this is correct- if not someone will let us know). A resale can not change the size of the contract so a large contract has to be sold that way.

Small resales are hard because the minimum sale fron DVC was always 150 pts, and closing cost are proportionly high on a smaller contract than a larger one.

DVC add-on sales are fixed at $92/95 per point regardless of resort. For BCV thats close to resale without the cost, VWL and BWV seem to be rising also. OKW and SSR can be bought resale below the add on price with HH and VB well below. So if I were buying OKW or SSR I would really look resale- and pretty soon some of the small add-ons that DVC has been selling lately will start to show up on the resale market.
