THE 'HARRY POTTER' SHOP AT HARRODS IS NOW OPEN!
by Harry Potter UK on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 5:13am

Having opened on Monday, 24 October 2011 at Harrods (London, UK), and running through January 2012, fans are now able to shop at a pop-up Harry Potter store, see original costumes and props from the films, and get a sneak peek of the ‘Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter’ attraction.

Located on the 3rd floor of the store, The Harry Potter Shop at Harrods covers over 4,000 square feet and offers fans and holiday shoppers the opportunity to select from a huge range of Harry Potter products. The product range includes prop replicas and collectibles from The Noble Collection and Tonner Doll; toys and games from LEGO, TOMY, Hasbro, Winning Moves, and She Who Dares; a collection of wizard costumes from Rubies; and the LEGO Harry Potter video games. “Harry Potter™ : The Complete 8-Film Collection” in the Limited Edition Elder Wand Chest, which is only available in the UK at Harrods, starting 2 December 2011, will retail for £199 and contains the complete Harry Potter film collection on 11 Blu-ray™ discs.

Also on display are original props and costumes from the films, including the sword of Gryffindor, broomsticks, Hogwarts school uniforms, and the Elder Wand.

Game pods are set up in-store to allow fans to play LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, as well as LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, upon its release on 18 November 2011. Sony also has their latest 3D technology on display so fans can watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™ - Part 1 and, after its release on 2 December, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™ – Part 2 in 3D. Finally, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter has set up a special installation where visitors can take their photo at the Great Hall and get a sneak peek of what to expect when the UK’s newest attraction opens on 31 March 2012.

Better get those Harry Potter DVDs and Blu Rays while you can! Warner Brothers just discovered their own vault, and HP's going in it on December 29th!

I wonder if that's because a new boxed set is coming in 2012? One of the HP podcasts I listen to mentioned a set that comes out here in the US in November, and then some time in 2012, a different set.

How confusing.

Dang! We will be in London, but not until March!!! My DD10 would LOVE that stuff!

What is this about a new attraction? Of course, we'll be gone by then too! :(

The set that is being released in November is just a re-boxing of the films that have already been released on DVD after each movie hit the theaters. Same stuff people have if they've been buying the DVDs all along. No new extras or anything.

In 2012, there's a pretty good chance that Warner Bros will release an "ultimate" set (like New Line did for Lord of the Rings, and a lot studios have done for a lot of other films lately) that includes "extended cuts", ie films that contain deleted scenes restored to their places in the actual films (in other words, not as the raw clips you can see in the existing DVD "extras"). The only thing you gain from the set coming out in November is a pretty box that all 8 films fit in. Warner Bros is hoping people will jump on the boxed set, AND buy the "ultimate set" when it comes out. MORE MONEY!

Since there aren't going to be any new movies, they have to come up with "creative" ways of milking what they have.

Warner Bros is opening up the studio outside of London where they did a lot of the filming for the HP movies. It's a whole attraction, apparently. Tickets for the Studio tour went on sale to the public a couple of weeks ago, even though the tour doesn't open until March 31, 2012.
