??? for Trip in Feb.--Pool/Misting fan/Bug Spray

The summer months are coming but our trip is not til Feb 06. But I thought I better ask these questions while the things are in the store now. We are going from Feb 9-18. Is it going to be warm enough to need a misting fan? Is it going to be warm enough to get in the swimming pools? And lastly do we need bug spray during that time? Thanks for any and all help.

You definitely won't need bug spray or misting fans- if fact, plan on bringing at least a pair of stretchy mittens for the kids... Feb can be downright cold on some days, and 80 on others. The pools themselves MAY be warm enough to get in, thanks to heaters, but the question is getting back out into what might be VERY cold air...

We have done one february trip once. My advice - bring any sanitary germ killng thing. Coughs, viruses, infections etc. were everywhere. Stock up on stuff like imodium, hand wipes, little bottles of hand sanitizer etc. And definetely hooded sweatshirts when getting out of the pool, even sweatpants. a towel is not sufficient, believe me we learned the hard way, 2 sick kids etc. It did actually get hot enough l or 2 days for shorts, but I had my ds just bring zip off pants and that worked well.

Congrats on your first Disney trip! You'll be hooked! And well-prepared since you're reading up on it on the DIS!!!

Our family has done 3 trips in Jan/Feb.

Bring swimsuits just in case - you MIGHT be able to swim, but I would not count on it (or make promises to the wee ones). The pools are lukewarm, not toasty like a hottub. And when you get out - wheeee! Check the Orlando weather before you pack, sometimes (rarely) they have mini heat waves that time of yr.

For the parks, I recommend layers - ss shirt, sweatshirt or jacket and jeans. It can be downright cold before 10:30 am or so. It seems to warm up most of the time for the afternoon, but look out after the sun goes down again. This last visit, I nearly froze at Epcot with just my denim jacket. Sweatshirts are $40-60!!!! They know they have a 'captive' market.

Like Kikipug said, you won't need bug spray or misters that time of yr.

Like has been said, you won't need bug spray or misters here in February. Even on the days when it does get warm all it takes to cool down a bit is to step into the shade. I'm always saying 80 degrees in February is a lot cooler than 80 degrees in June or July. A big reason is the humidity is not around in Feb. In February the sun warms things up during the day, but as soon as it's gone the temperature drops back to normal. In the summer it's already hot, and then the sun comes out and makes it hotter. Big difference. So even if you see the Feb temp getting in the upper 70's...don't worry, it won't be that bad.

he~he~he~~~~~ Disney Gator, I got a chuckle out of the end of your post... the part about 70's not being that bad... see I'm from the "north country" as we call it (one hour north of Syracuse, next to the Canadian border) and I'd be the one in a tank top and shorts with my misty fan clipped on in February!

LOL!!! I'll be the one out there with my tank top and shorts also. We went to the zoo yesterday and it was only 70 degrees and I was sweating. And I was in shorts and a tank top. We live in Va...but I think 60 degrees is comfortable for me. Anything over that I'm wearing shorts and tank tops. Anyone else have any experiences with the weather at that time of the year? So, should I bring jackets for the kiddies at night or should I bring their winter coat for them to wear at night time? They will be 4 years old and 2 years old.

I live in FL (transplant from NH) and I no longer own a "winter coat". If you are already bringing sweatshirts and windbreakers for them, layers will be fine. Besides - if you are in the parks in the afternoon, you won't want to be dragging winter coats with you... light jackets and/or sweatshirts can easily be tied around their waists while its still warm.

Also keep in mind that by Feb., they will be acclaimated to winter weather- even high 50's may feel 'warm' to them.

Light jacket should be fine, especially if you're from farther north and used to the cold already. Cold for me here in Florida might be warm for you. I've grown up in Florida and acclimated to the warm weather, and even I don't need a winter coat here. I have one, but I only wear it when I go visit friends and relatives who live where it actually gets cold.

Layers are the best idea, because the temperature will drop a lot when the sun goes down. It could be 75 at 4:00 and then 45 at 8:00, so it's easier to just add another layer when you feel cold.
