For Those Who've Noted Disney's Penny Pinching Ways

I'd be shocked if they didn't have that covered in the fine print somewhere.

I actually would prefer the snack to the quick service dessert. They were probably throwing away too many little chocolate cakes every day. Or maybe the price of chocolate cake batter went up or something.
This is the first time we have ever agreed on something that Disney has done. LOL

Just thought that was worth noting :)

When do we know if this is real or not?

I just checked and can't find anything of the sort on the website.

Actually this is a good thing IMO, I bet you'll be able to still get the desert at QS if you choose, it'll just charged as a snack. I know for me, really at lunch time, the desert seems like too much. Now if this is true that means we'll get 2 snacks during the day, so i can get my mickey ice cream bar some time during the day, and then something else later on that night to watch the parade.

A very good move if this is the case.

Agree! We do a lot of character breakfasts on the DDP.. and at lunch we typically 'save' the desert anyway. Would be easier to just get it at a different time.

I love dessert but with the extra snack credit I would not need to order what is offered at the CS restaurant. I could choose my sweet anywhere I chose when I chose. I like this change.

My wife just pointed out to me that we can grab something like a chocolate croissant in the morning on the way to catch the bus as a snack...now that covers all 3 meals for me.

I love that option.

I didn't even think of that. It really would cover all 3 meals!

Any chance they can implement this before Thanksgiving? I wish anyway!

Yes but right now you can exchange your dessert or drink for a snack credit in the same transaction. So essentially you are losing a "snack credit" for the same price. So if a snack credit is worth say $5 it is essentially a around a 12% hidden price increase for the QSDP if I do the math right.

Can you not still exchange your drink for a snack? For those who drink water or who have their mug filled, this would work nicely

I didn't know that there was an option to exchange a drink for a snack. Great news if true! Is this in effect now?

As of right now you can. For example guest a BOG exchange their drink or dessert for the french onion soup. So with the dessert included you could in theory sub in 2 soups for your dessert and drink. Now you can only sub for the drink essentially loosing a snack credit. Sorry I keep trying to justify the DDP but find it hard to spend 42$ on 2 CS and a snack credit.

We do most of our QS at the resort. We use our refillable mug so have never received a drink with it. I didn't even realize that I was 'losing' something

Same transaction though, thats the difference. Sometimes I don't want a desert or a snack with my meal, I like the option of being able to use that snack to purchase a desert with the meal, or to purchase a snack at a different time. The added option is worth the nominal difference in price IMO.

I gave no first hand experience with this but it has been reported that the exchanges are in place

Here are the changes made to the DDP from last May from all ears.net

As of May 31, 2015, the following changes were made to Table Service and Quick Service Entitlements:

  • You may now use an unlimited number of your available meal entitlements at one time. For example, if you wish to cover dinner for friends dining with you who are not on the Dining Plan, you will be able to use your entitlements to do so. (You must specifically request this.)
  • If you are using the Deluxe, Premium or Platinum dining plan you may now use any child meal entitlements for adult entrees. (This change does not apply if you are on the regular dining plan.)
  • Dessert substitutions by request only: You may substitute your dessert for a fruit plate, side salad or cup of soup where available. You still cannot swap your dessert for a regular appetizer. This will only be done at your specific request.
  • You can now substitute any dessert or non-alcoholic beverage for a DDP snack credit. This must be done in the same transaction.
  • You are now able to substitute one Quick Service meal for up to three Snack DDP items, but this must be done during the same transaction. Instead of a single Quick Service meal you could, for example, get three sodas.
-- TWO SNACKS -- e.g. 1 frozen ice cream novelty, popsicle, fruit bar, popcorn scoop (single-serving box), single-serving bag of snacks, single piece of whole fruit, 20-oz. bottle of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite or Dasani water, 22-oz. fountain soft drink, 12-oz. coffee, hot chocolate or hot tea, single-serving prepackaged milk or juice

As of May 31, 2015, the following changes were made to Snack Entitlements:

  • Snacks are no longer determined based on price. Here are some examples of items now considered snacks: any soup at a Quick Service location; any ice cream novelties; any hand-scooped ice cream (including sundaes) with two scoops or less of ice cream and NOT in a souvenir container; anything listed as a side at a Quick Service location; any single-serve, non-alcoholic beverage that's not in a souvenir container.
  • You can now also use a snack credit for the following breakfast items: cereal, French toast sticks, oatmeal or quinoa, grits, biscuits and gravy, hard-boiled eggs or a side of bacon, sausage, potatoes or eggs.
-- ONE Resort refillable-drink mug per person -- The Disney Deluxe Dining Plan also includes a refillable Resort mug for each Guest. Bring your Resort mug to any quick-service restaurant at your Resort hotel and refill it as often as you like!

(Note that children age 3-9 must choose from a children's menu, if one is available.)

To me the option of adding a dole whip, mickey bar, or breakfast item is of more value.

We always brought a 'desert' ,cupcake usually, back to the room. But then a few minutes later we were heading back to the parks before hungry again. I usually purchased a snack for us at the park later in the evening...It could save that from happening

I think Disney counts on that!

Yeah well, I'm the idiot who didn't read that prior to my September '15 trip.

I paid OOP for my son to have an adult meal at Tangierine Cafe.lol. And I never exchanged anything.

Lesson learned.

That the problem with DDP. I feel like I have to write a dissertation in order for it pay off. We always used Tables with having an AP. Now that the prices cranked up on AP and TIW I revisited the DDP, then my head started to hurt looking at the details, lol.
