For those who have never visited the Hudson Valley on vacation, would ever want to in the future? Our tourism seems to be on the rise from what I have heard so I was curious if Disboarders have ever considered visiting our beautiful area? 😊

I think people would need to know it's actually "a thing." From here - it's absolutely beautiful, but there are not a lot of big draws. Of course, there is camping/hiking, seasonal items like apple picking, and now we have Legoland. Those are not enough to draw in people except for a weekend. I think people just think NY=NYC and that's it. They don't realize/know that you can travel 1-2 hours and enjoy a lot of beautiful things - FDR's home, Vanderbilt Mansion, historical places, etc.

Just from a geographic perspective, it's beautiful just to drive around and look around the window - Appalachian mountains, Catskills...

Ok that was my sales pitch!

Never considered it.
I didn't realize it was a "vacation destination"?
What is there that would make me want to visit?
We have plenty to see and do, especially around holidays.

Historical places, outdoor events and activities, festivals, museums, concerts, amusement parks, great food and sports, wineries, the Culinary Institute of America, Presidental libraries, West Point, natural parks, great Colleges, a welcoming business community, and great people. Just to name a few things. 😊

Each county has diffrent things to see and do. You could spend a whole week here and not see everything. Just my two sense. 🤷‍♂️

To be fair where I live has much of those things as well.
We have a wonder of the world, a state park that is gorgeous during the fall
We also have multiple ski resorts, tons of wineries, tons of festivals, 3 national sports teams, museums, concerts etc.

So unfortunately I would not be tempted to go.

Fair. Thanks for the response. 😊

I went to Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown back in 2019 and had a lot of fun with what we did there. We went to Irvings house, did a night cemetery tour, and went to the Jack o'lantern blaze (there are similar events on a smaller scale near where I live, but it was cool).

When checking in for the cemetery tour, the guide noticed my last named and asked if there was any connection to Brom Bones.

i never knew of it until i watched a newer show on hgtv that focused on the region. just stunning! dh and i remarked that some of the areas reminded us of areas around where we grew up before tourism ruined them. looks beautiful-i imagine the fall colors are stunning!

Nope, don't anticipate visiting. Have been to the Finger Lakes area once, and will be going back there in autumn 2025 with several siblings and their spouses for a trip.

We've got most of the things you mentioned in post #4 in Virginia and the DC region, minus West Point (Naval Academy is in Annapolis though) and a different CIA.

We have some classic events coming up including the jacoblaze, Headless Horseman haunted hayride, the Renaissance Fair/Forest of Fear, ghost tours, apple picking, pumpkin picking, fairs, concerts, and more. If you do want to visit in the future, I can give some suggestions on some of the local favorites that are sometimes overlooked.

Honestly, I would just travel back to my home state of Michigan because they have some great areas that have apple orchards, cider farms and festivals, great foliage colors in the fall, Mackinac Island were the only motor vehicles are for emergency departments, Pinconning for some great cheese and a Bavarian town in Frankenmuth, plus many more places :D
