I am hoping to make a princess dress for my grand niece for her trip to WDW and have a question about the patterns.
I can buy clothing off the rack for myself in size 6 but have to use a size 14 pattern. Are children's patterns that much of a difference compared to clothes off the rack?
She is 6 years old but wears size 5 because she is very petite. I wanted to make her size 6 so she can wear it a few times but I would have to hem it a bit shorter and leave fabric for when she grows but I don't want to make it too small.

I haven't found the children's patterns to be much different when it comes to size. Why not use one of CarlaC's patterns? You can print them to size. Here is her blogspot on how to convert the dress to princess. They can be cooler for Disney

she shows it with a doll, but you do the same thing. She also has Aurora and Belle.

And when your done, show us over on the DisBoutique thread:
