I read the other day on these boards that the voucher you get for the free character meal was actually usuable at any restaurant...

is this true...has anyone done this?

We are not interested in the character meal...but would use it somewhere else if we could.

thanks if anyone knows:goodvibes

We just were at DL through Costco with character meal vouchers. We went to a character meal but I too noticed that it says you can use the voucher at any sitdown or counter service resturant for the value to the voucher. They will not give you money back so either you use it or lose it. If you are buying food for serveral people, you should be able to use up the $39 pretty easily. If you do it, let us know if it worked.

Yes you can, I think the exception is the WOC meal. You will get $39 towards another meal.

Well we are eating Turkey day at Storytellers and at Blue Bayou...one of those meals should easily use our amount.

thanks !!:goodvibes

You probably read my post about it. I made reservations at Storyteller's for dinner (not character meal) and asked specifically when I made the reservation. The back of the voucher says you can do it and the CM told me yes as well, so hopefully it's true! I will let you know after we get back Oct 15!

I read the fine print of the booking info today and its says on there that you can use the vouchers at any counter or sit down restaurant in Disney...except WOC and Ariels.

so that is $120 of free food for us...that is wonderful !!!

That is such an awesome deal!! We, too, are not really interested in the character meals and are delighted to be able to use our $177 (!) worth of vouchers elsewhere. I just wish BB was going to be open when we're there, but it's not :sad1:

yeah its supposed to open the day we arrive...I am guessing they want it open for Thanksgiving...I was able to book for after nov 24...:thumbsup2

Could you use the vouchers to potentially pay for more than one counter service meal then? If you have 4 people in your party, and your total is $75, can you pay with 2 vouchers? Or will they apply one voucher per person, to cover the 2 highest priced meals, and charge the diff? Hope that makes sense.

oooo, lucky you!!! I LOVE BB and am sad we'll miss it this year.

Hey Diz, I've been out of the loop for a while. What are they doing at BB??

Hey, b-mom!! What's up? Are you going on the Holiday Tour this year? My sis and I will be going Nov 29-Dec 2, but not sure yet which night we'll be doing the tour. DH, dds and I are going Oct 13-15 for the MTOTP. It would be fun to run into you again at DL!! Anyway, they're currently doing a major refurb of Pirates which also closes BB. I guess, from what Disney-Kim discovered, it is going to be finished just before Thanksgiving.

Now that is a good question and one I've been wondering about myself. I don't really see how they could force you to use vouchers they didn't even know you had but they may have a limit on using one voucher for more than one person. However, if it's counter service, how would they know if all the food you're ordering is yours or not ? :rotfl2: You might ask on the main board! I was also wondering if you could get your ap discount when using the vouchers (I have an ap) for other than character meals. There is nothing on the voucher that says it cannot be combined with other offers, but I really don't know!

The way I read the fine print is that the voucher for adults is worth $39 and you can use it at a sit down or counter service in place of cash. Basically you use it or lose it so if your meal comes to $30 and you use an adult voucher then you will lose $9.

I think it is similar to the meal plans you can buy. I think you are given vouchers worth so much per meal per person and if you don't use the whole amount, you lose it. I would think you could use two vouchers at one meal.

Just got back from DL and I used the character vouchers all over the place.

I used them as cash, but you don't get change.

Basically this is what I did:

$27 at Blue Ribbon bakery cost me (1) child voucher and $7

$88 at Cafe Orleans cost me (2) child vouchers, (1) adult vouchers and $9 plus tip.

Sometimes the CM would ask the manager, but most of the time they just looked for the serial number and punched it in.

I had 16 vouchers through booking with Costco for our party of 8. We did Goofy's once and spread the other vouchers all over the park for different meals.

Hope that helps.

Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks for sharing your experience. I love Costco Travel because of the free meals but we do not always want to do a character meal.
