for those who applied in the last 2 months, how long has it been taken to receive it. i went to postal outlet and was advised 20 days max but i am over the 20 days and cannot get through the phone #. i tried the email last week but still not receive a response. I need it for the first week of Feb and they have my original birth certificate for DD. Should i worry or wait it out???
i did think that because i put the first week of feb on the application it would get processed sooner.

did you just mail it in, or did you go to a passport office? I'm thinking if they still have the BC, that you mailed it??? No advice for you, except to find somewhere to start with the phone calls .... you need to get this expedited now. My friend just went to the passport office last week here in London, everything's been sent away, and she was told to expect them in about 3 weeks. Here's some PD for you ... pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

the website suggested going to a service center and thats what i did. i went to the postal office and they take the original birth cert. but said i should have it all mailed in 20 days. this was first week of december. now i am getting worried as i have less then 3 weeks to go?

My husband took our forms into the office on Friday , Jan 12th they told him they would be ready to pick up on Jan 26th. However we aren't going till April so she said they may as well mail them to us and told him they would be here around mid feb. Which is about 5 weeks if you mailed the forms you may be looking at even longer. They don't answer the phone however i did see on the website the number where you can check the status of your passport. It just an automated thing but wouldn't hurt to try. Hopefully they will be along soon for you , did you fill in your travel date that may put a rush on them. Good luck.....do you have travel insurance?

we couriered ours nov 29 (have signed receipt for it). Only processed Friday jan 12. our trip is Jan 23 - should hopefully come this week, so they say.

takes a long time. more than 20 days

call them and keep trying until you get through

I applied at the passport office in Whitby. They did not keep any of our ID. They said we would get the passports by courier within 3 weeks. They came in my mailbox a little over 3 weeks later. All 4 arrived on the same day. I think the best plan is always to go right to the passport office. Good luck!

If you go onto Passport Canada's website (in the contact us section, I think, but just browse around... it is there somewhere) you can do an email enquiry about the status of your passport. They suggest that you wait until a reasonable time has elapsed (likely the 20 working days) but then they will contact you via email back. It took 3 days to get a response but it was very reassuring to find out that the passports had been processed and were on their way to us. They will give you a Postal tracking number to check about delivery status too. Hope this helps!

When my daughter got hers in Dec., they had said 3 weeks. It was 3 weeks and 3 days when it arrived.

i did email the site last monday, and thought i would wait a week but now it is tuesday following week. :confused3 and still no response. I waited 25 days
Anyways, i hope a few more days i will hear something, i know i have a few weeks but i would like to plan a day trip over the border before we go but they have my DD original passport? So, now i have to wait.

We applied for ours through the Edmonton office on December 15th. They just arrived a few days ago Friday Janaury 12th. We live four hours north of Edmonton so taking in to account a few extra days for mail.
I also had tried e-mailing them (before we received them), and I still haven't received a reply, although they do mention 3 working days.:scratchin

We were quite relieved to get them (we leave the 31st). . . .good luck with yours!

I had the same problem as you. We are leaving Feb. 1 and there were 8 of us that applied for a passsport and everyone received their's except for me a week ago. I called passsport canada this morning as soon as they opened and they told me they mailed it out Jan 5th. They told me that they are having a hard time with the post office not notifying people when their passports are in . I called the post office and sure enough it has been there waiting for me. If you do get a hold of passport canada they will give you a tracking # so you can see where it is at.

Call your MP's office for help. We have done this several times for DH's passport in the past and they can always get an answer and results QUICK! They are there to help you. Good luck. Deb

December past in 2006, I did our two adult passport forms online and the three kids manually. Then took our old soon to expire passports (which count as a piece of ID) and birth certificates to the Winnipeg office and I was in and out in twenty minutes. You go in a different line if you have ANY of your passports done online. This makes it faster for the agent to process the passports.

Our passports ALL arrived less than three weeks later to our rural address.

I would be happy to answer anything that is not clear.

I plan to take ours to Whitby shortly as well. How long was the wait? When/what time of day did you go?

Thanks!

thanks for replies. I applied at a service center on Dec 11th and i did speak with someone on Monday after days of getting through. They did not give me a tracking number but said i still have 3 weeks til i need it??
they could not even tell me if it was up on the system. they have my DD original birth certifcate, which is making me crazy because now i can;t even cross the border with her as they still have it.

I took mine in person to the passport office at Richmond and Victoria St in Toronto on a Wednesday morning in early December. I arrived 45 minutes before the office opened at 8:30am, was 27th in line and was seen by 8:50am.

I was told it would take 10 business days by courier, but it came in 7 calendar days. Yes - I received it on the following Wednesday.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones.:thumbsup2

I think things are much worse here. This is today's update.

Passport pain continues

POSTED AT 3:57 PM Wednesday, January 17

Passport Canada says a huge increase in the number of applications means delays of 5 to 20 business days, but some Albertans say they’ve been waiting much longer.

Judy Rushfeldt mailed her information on December 4th and it was received two days later.

At the time she applied, Passport Canada's website stated it would take about 20 business days before her passport was ready.

She also spoke to two agents by telephone who told her the same thing.

Rushfeldt and her husband were scheduled to leave for Hawaii on January 26th, 3 days after the new rule that means all Canadians entering the United States by air must have a passport.

Fabien Langelle from a Passport Canada office in Quebec says, by his calculations, Rushfeld's passport should arrive next week.

Langelle says with days off for Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years, her application has really only been in the hands of Passport Canada officials for 30 working days so by his calculations it should arrive by next week.

Rushfeldt's been assured that won't happen, but she says she's taking her vacation anyway.

Those thinking of using Passport Canada’s online application process might be in for a surprise.

The online system has been bogged down due to overwhelming volume on the web site.

I brought DD's application to a Service Canada Centre on December 20th and was told that it would be here by February 9th. I think they said that was 35 business days.

We applied for our passports on December 12th at the post office - applying 'expect it in 20 days' that was given to us at the time :rolleyes1 - we should have received it by the end of last week. :sad2:

Have yet to receive it - however my guarantor received a call from the passport office to confirm how long she had known me for :confused3 so I guess I should receive it soon :scared:

We are flying out of Buffalo so we really don't need it - but they have my birth certificate  The post office said that we can take the receipt we have from them confirming they have our birth certificates and that would work at the border - anybody have any experience with this

Maybe we were at the same post office(lol) i too went dec 12th and they have our birth certifcates as well and we also fly out of buffalo. If i had know they were this much a hassle, i would not have done it and gone with birthcertificate only. I leave first week of February. i would like to know about the receipts used at border??
