For those that own the Fisher Price Child Locator

I have been considering buying one of these on ebay and had a couple of questions. Does the childs unit beep when the child is a certain distance away from the parent unit (like the Angel alert)? or does it only beep when you push the button on the parent unit? Any other likes, dislikes on this product. Thanks

I got one one Ebay but havent put it through a real test yet . Its a great concept. Getting the child's unit on takes some work as it has a special two way clamp. My 2 yr old loves to pull it off so the alarm goes off, even if I mount it on the back of his pants. The alarm is hard to hear at first, but it does get louder the longer it goes off. I dont know how easy it would be able to hear in a large noisey crowd. The device that Ive really been interested in is that GPS locator (Wherify Wireless) that came out a year or so ago. You can track your child on the internet or cell phone at any time. Problem is that what happens if a child is taken indoors or in the mountains where the signal cant be reached. Plus you have to pay a monthly service fee. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I used one of these 3 years ago in WDW for my DS then 3yrs old. It was wonderful. To answer your question, if they go a distance from you it beeps, the further they go the louder & higher the page and it keeps going on and on. We taught our son to stop if it goes off and shout "Wheres Mom and Dad" we never lost him, but often one of us would take our DS off seperately while the other parent went to the washroom etc & forgot that parent had the pager!!!! This was sooo frustrating as you could not turn off the childs unit. Worth it though, we are planning to use it for our DD next year. So many parents asked us where we purchased it while we were at WDW. 2 thumbs up from us - have a great time.

I have the Angel Alert and I use it all the time as a safe guard. You don't understand when you have a 3 year old that will just walk off. As soon as she gets so far from me, it goes off. She likes it because it is a nice "necklace" to wear. I like it alot and I'm glad I bought it. I will be using it at WDW in Sept.

How far away can she go with both of these types before the alrm goes off?

She can go about 25 feet. At first I thought I would have liked it with less but then I taught her to stop when she hears the beeping and she does stop so I can get her. I now don't think I would like it to be closer before beeping because then it would get on my nerves because she wouldn't be able to go anywhere without it beeping. It also has a button on the child's unit in case that someone tries to take her she can sound it and it makes a loud beeping. I use it as a second safeguard in case she accidently walks too far away. I know I'm still supposed to keep an eye on her at all times but this is the real world and sometimes we are not perfect.
