The only item they have ever sent out for repair for us is my iPod, and both of our cameras. They just sent me a refurbished iPod, they have never swaped it out in store. And they repaired the cameras, which was fine, because I don't think they make our cameras anymore.
I don't think our BB has anything refurbished in store either, they have open box items.
Oh, I agree, I expect Apple products to last a long time. I just wore out the battery in mine, and they can't replace them, so they sent me a refurbished one and it wouldn't hold a charge, so they had to send me another one. My warranty is about to expire on it and it's perfectly fine, I guess I will renew it, because that is much easier on the purse than replacing it.
They sent out both Touches and our laptop, the Touches they sent out multiple times. Once you send an item in 4 times they are supposed to replace it for you. We sent DBF's Touch off 4 times and the 5th they replaced his 3rd gen with a 4th gen, we sent DD's off 6 times and the 7th time we brought it in they replaced her 3rd with a 4th. It isn't supposed to take that long but because it was processed wrong a couple of times it did. Every time each one had something different wrong with it, from a screen that wouldn't light up, to not charging, to not even turning on even tho it said it was fully charged.....So annoying!! If we still had her 3rd gen I would have extended the Black Tie as well, definitely easier on the wallet.

Actually, they usually give you a refurbished iPad, not a new one.
To clarify, this is what you get if you go to an Apple Store. They have boxes of refurbs. I have no idea what they do at Best Buy; I don't shop there due to their clueless employees, long lines, and poor customer service.
We don't have an Apple store close by, I'd have to drive at least an hour to get to one. Unfortunately that means I shop at Best Buy.
