For those that have other timeshares-What are the chances of a DVC transfer in

My bil has a timeshare but would like to trade in for a WDW DVC resort. Anyone know of the odds in doing so? He needs last week in Apr. this year. Thanks!

VERY doubtful for that time. The first two weeks will be zero chance. If they don't need a 2 BR and have a strong trader, I'd give it about a 5-10% chance at best if they can wait until the last minute (2 weeks before). If they have to have it before 60 days, I'd say little chance. Still it's worth a try.

Essentialy all truly good trades through II will be gotten through the ongoing search route (wait list if you will) so this is normal. Most matches occur around 5-6 months out but DVC seems to be different with a lot of inventory showing up only 2-8 weeks ahead of time. Jan, end of August, Sept, Oct and early Nov are the best times to get the resorts. I've seen them all including 2 BR during this time. OKW is usually the easiest to get due to the larger amount of rooms and lower points costs but with the change in trading method last year, all resorts have shown up at least for 1 BR and studio units.

Any of the Marriott properties are quite nice, and not too far away. Grande Vista would probably be the furthest, but even it's not a bad drive. We stayed at Grande Vista last summer for 4 days before checking in at OKW. My sister owns there, and my folks have traded into Sable Palms.

If your BIL wants to trade, instead of going through II why not post on TUG for exactly what he has and exactly what he wants. I actually found a northeast trade for a disney trade. It eliminates the middle man. However, I knew the resort I wanted, its quality etc... I think it would have been an even trade!

Actually Cypress Harbour and Horizons are far or further but likely about the same time distance as they are nearer I-4. Westgate (maybe), Vistana would be ver close. If you want DVC though, you should wait and add those later.

What's your opinion on how easy (or difficult) it would be to get a 2BR at Disney's Hilton Head for the last week of March through II?

Is there any evidence that DVC deposits Hilton Head Choice Season weeks with II?

(In my specific case, a Friday 03/24/06 or Saturday 03/25/06 check-in would be Choice Season at Disney's Hilton Head for all 7 nights. I would use a strong Marriott 2BR, and I would make the request about 18 months out. Easter 2006 won't be until April 16.)

While there are a lot of HH DVC deposits for the winter, I don't recall seing anything around mid March to mid April at all. Still, at 18 months out you would have a chance. I didn't know there were any strong trading Marriott's one could deposit at 18 monhs out. All the ones I am thinking off wouldn't pull DVC very well (Harbour Pointe, Monarch, Streamside) even if they were high demand weeks like summer HH or ski weeks. Also be aware you can't pull DVC HH with a HH Marriott. You should likely list the to Marriott's there like Grande Ocean and Barony and possibly Monarch which I'm sure you'd get eventually. Still, GO and Barony might be a difficulty due to the quality of the resot issue. What resort is it you are trading?

I wouldn't expect to see late March DVC HH weeks sitting around at IntervalWorld.com because I would assume that such weeks would be used to fill ongoing requests -- but only if DVC deposits such weeks. I guess that's the issue. Because DVC, not the DVC member, picks the weeks, the deposit pattern of DVC weeks is likely to be different than typical timeshares where the owners reserve and deposit weeks that they think will be strong traders.

I was hoping March would be more likely than April because March is Choice Season at HH.

I can only book 12 months out. During summer 2004, I would book a week for summer 2005. I would deposit that week immediately with II and request the DVC at HH for spring 2006. That would actually be more than 18 months. I've made various requests up to two years ahead of time in the past (but never for a DVC resort).

If we wanted to go in summer, Grande Ocean or Barony would be great because of their beachfront locations. But in the spring, I think the DVC at HH would be a fun place to stay.

Horace, I wouldn't expect DVC to deposit that time, no need to. They can deposit adventure which is about all they deposit there. Still, no harm in searching though. You may actually do better paying cash to CRO for just a few days. Personally I'd still do GO or Barony for a full week and remember that if you request only Marriott's your exchange fee will be only $79 instead of $121. If you list DVC too, you'll pay the higher fee even if you match with Marriott. Good luck.

A 2BR at HH during Choice Season is just 200 points. From previous posts that you've made, I understand that DVC tends to deposit OKW Adventure Season and Choice Season weeks with II -- but, for a 2BR, those are 218 points and 232 points for a 2BR, respectively. So why wouldn't DVC deposit HH Choice Season weeks?

There's actually a Choice Season DVC HH 2BR week sitting at IntervalWorld.com right now. The dates are Saturday, October 30, 2004, through Saturday, November 06, 2004. But, I recognize that this could be an anomaly.

In spring, before it's beach weather, I just think Disney's themed resort on the little island upon an island would be more fun than either of those two shiny, modern Marriott timeshare resorts on the beach.

I'll admit that I've never been to Hilton Head, so everything I know about Hilton Head (and the resorts there) is from the Internet.

The last week of March may technically be Choice season but it's a fairly difficult time to get in HH since many schools are out around that time and the next week starts Dream season. DVC or a member could easily deposit a January week for less points still. So it's not necessarily the season but the specific week. DVC tends to look at the weeks that are more available as much or more than the actual season. For WDW, you actually see a number of magic season deposits albeit smaller units.

Mid Sept to mid Dec excluding thanksgiving tends to be available. As does the week after xmas until early to mid March. This is true for Marriott as well as DVC but since DVC is a single resort, the issue is magnified.

My stratgey would be not to list Grande Ocean or Barony. But that's a bad strategy if means I end up with nothing.

I'd expect you to end up with nothing in that situation. If you've never been to HH and you're looking for a full week, all three of these resorts are very good choices. In part it depends on what criteria you use to rank the resorts.

If you use resort quality you get:

1. Grande Ocean
2. Barony
3. DVC
   [/list=1]
   If you use location you get:
   1. Monarch
   2. Grande Ocean
   3. Harbour Club
   4. Heritage
   5. Barony
   6. a number of non Marriott's in II and RCI
   7. Then DVC, Marriott's Harbour Pointe and Marriott's Sunset Pointe.
   That's not to say that Shelter Cove is a bad location, just that there are better ones. If one wants to bike ride, Sea Pines is best followed by other plantations like Port Royal, Shipyard and Palmetto Dunes.
   
   I get the impression you're thinking that the others would be lower choices and that is definitely not the case for some of them, especially when it comes to Grande Ocean. Your choices would be much greater the more resorts you list. I looked on II last night for units in this area and there were not many even for Marriott and none of the top 3 I had listed above. My pleasure. There are currently two resorts showing to me. Those are a Barony and an Island Links, both 2 BR for the dates of 21-28 March. I can't speak to the Island links other than to say it's 5* and rated 8.46 on TUG.
