The driving with an infant got me to thinking about it and I just wonder if I did drive, should I take my truck - Ford Expedition (translates to HUGE gas guzzler) or rent one? If I rent where would you suggest I rent from that allows me to take the vehicle over the border and preferably with unlimited km's?

Thank you.

In my opinion I think as long as your own vehicle will get you there I'd take it. Just because if you rent one you'd have to pay for the rental plus the gas anyways. I don't think the cost of gas (remember it's cheaper down south) on your own vehicle could equal the total rental plus gas cost even if you rented a small compact car. Plus you're in your own vehicle and it's nice to be in something you're familiar with. Just my 2 cents

I would take your own car. Like LdnCpl said, you will know your car a lot better. We have a Ford too ( Escape and a Focus) and it was really really difficult to get DS car seat attached to the anchors that we wont take them out until he has to go into the next size. That alone would keep me from getting a rental.

I agree, take your own vehicle if it's a good, reliable one. Otherwise, when I rented last year to drive down for March Break because we needed more room, I rented from Budget (closest one to me is Niagara Falls), and it was unlimited kms and could cross the border. I had tried Enterprise, but they wouldn't let it leave Canada. Go to www.budget.com and that might help you decide when you compare prices.
We just bought a gas guzzling Dodge Durango, and DH and I are driving down Feb. 17th - since it's newer and reliable and has loads of room, we don't have to rent this time, and the airfare is so expensive that weekend that the gas isn't even a concern (plus we don't have to rent a car when we get there)
Have a safe trip!

We just came back. Rented a Dodge Durango from Enterprise (had requested a Grand Caravan) but it was in an accident the day before we got it.

We spent $250 on the trip back from Florida to PEI. And had tons of room.

I would take your own car. If it's in good running order take it. You get better gas milage on the hwy anyway. The amount you will save in gas wont be worth the amount you spend in rental. Also how do you know the rental is any good. Most are abused. Set your cruise and go. Were heading down this may we had a choice of Ford escort or Chev Astro. Ford being way cheaper on gas we still chose the Van. It is more comfie and I feel safer in a bigger vechile. What ever you choose enjoy your vacation.
