I know motion sickness comes in many forms, so, for context:
I do not have vertigo. I have always been one to get carsick as a passenger, which I can mitigate by having cold air blow on me and by not looking around too much. The Simpsons ride at Universal was an absolute nightmare (rode once many years ago and never will again) and I DO NOT ride Star Tours. I have issues with motion (side-to-side and backwards) and with simulation via screens. My symptoms are usually a mild headache, mild nausea and just not feeling well in general.
ETA small spaces are also an issue for me. I have never tried Mission Space (and never will).

Bonine = tablets that can be taken one or two at a time and are supposed to last 24 hours, I only take one tablet (ETA as DisneyStarWisher points out, Bonine is the brand-name. Meclizine is the active ingredient.)
Ginger = Ginger Rescue Chewable Tablets (fair warning, in my opinion the “mighty mango” ones do not taste like mango, just ginger). I hold two between my teeth so I can control how fast they dissolve.

MMRR- I had not taken Bonine that morning, but rode with ginger. There was actually only one “scene” that made me feel a little sick, but only briefly.

FOP- this was my second time, so I knew what to expect. I took Bonine about an hour before hand and rode with ginger. During the ride I often focus on “guide” banshee flying in front of me when looking around starts to make me feel sick. This is a ride that I get off of with some residual ill feeling, but it starts to fade about the time we are done window shopping in the end-of-ride store and, frankly, is worth it.
(ETA was reminded reading another post...air is blown on you to go along with the simulated motion, that helps tremendously )

As simulation technology improves, it seems to affect me less. I am glad I took Bonine (a while before) and ginger (during) for ROTR and MFSR, but any momentary bad feelings were gone as quickly as they came on. I happily did MFSR a second time via single rider our next HS day. (ETA I was engineer on MFSR)

Remy was a little more impactful (I used ginger, I can’t remember if I managed to take Bonine that day) because of the nature of the movement of the cars vs the screen…. that took some of the fun out of it for me.

I got through Soarin’ pretty well (twice) with a combination of ginger and closing my eyes occasionally. The first time I had taken Bonine much earlier in the day. I don't think I had had any Bonine the day of our second time.

Very helpful. I too have to close my eyes a few times on Soarin which ironically is one of my MOST favorite rides. I always hoped I'd outgrow this but here I am at 55 and it's actually worse. I've just learned what my limitations are and take meds like you. Do you prefer Bonine of Dramamine? I've never heard of Bonine.

We are very close in age and I too have gotten more sensitive.

I came across Bonine years ago when looking for a substitute for Dramamine to avoid drowsiness. It claims to cause less drowsiness- I manage on a low dose (the one I buy says you can take one or two tablets and I just take one) and I don't seem to experience any drowsiness. I've used it ever since....so I can't really tell you how well Dramamine would work for me these days.

For me, the ginger is key. (Though I sometimes wonder how much of it is chemical and how much psychological. Well, I guess it doesn't matter how it works...as long as I can enjoy myself without suffering!)

I take two Bonine the night before...never tried in the mornings, just in case of drowsiness. It has been an effective strategy for me. My motion sickness started after my first pregnancy, before that I was the person who could ride anything, even the rotor, back to back with no issue. Now elevators are even tricky.

Great information. Thank you SO much. I don't mind the taste of ginger so I guess that's a plus but avoiding drowsiness is VERY important. I'll def be trying Bonine. Thank you!:flower::flower:

This is my exact experience too, so weird LOL! I do the same as you, 2 Bonine at night, starting a night or two before my trip or cruise and I bring ginger gum just in case but so far haven't needed it. My trip last week I did Remy, FOP, ROTR, Space, etc. and had no issues.

Ginger gum? Where do you get that? I've never even heard of it. I would SOOOO chew gum. 8-)

Wow, that is a sudden and extreme change! My hair got straighter after every pregnancy. Sigh.

Anyway, nice to know that Bonine works for you taking it the night before. I may try that next trip instead of waiting 'til day of and chancing forgetting it.

Curious about the gum! I hold the ginger chewables between my teeth so I can control when and how quickly they dissolve. For some attractions, the need is not at the beginning of the ride. Does the ginger release/flavor last for quite a while when you start chewing? Or can you see being able to hold it in your mouth and putting off chewing it or chewing it very slowly?

I did not have to use it last week, I brought it just in case the screen rides made me motion sick, my nightly Bonine did the trick!

Thanks for the response. I was hoping you may have chewed it in other situations. I may get some and see for myself :-)

glad it worked for you but so far I have not found anything that works for me. I have been know to close rides down for cleaning after I ride

For Soarin, I recommend requesting the middle section on the lowest tier of gliders. Two in our party get motion sick with simulators, but the location was fine for us.

Long time tansdermal scop patch user here and while I love it for how well it controls my severe motion sickness, I can't stand the blurry near vision it gives me. I am at WDW now and now day 3 just using medicine every night before bed which I started the day before we arrived. I did all the things at DHS yesterday with no issues and typically that park is the one that I have the worst time with. I'm very happy!

Glad you had a great HS day!

So you are using nightly med instead of the patch? May I ask what medicine (seeing as how it is working well for you)?

I bought meclizine and have been taking 1 pill at night. Bonus, it helps me sleep as I am.a terrible sleeper!

I was just there and came with the patch. Worked so great!!! But Remy got me bad! And dinosaur!! I closed my eyes on avatar when it goes in a circle and was ok.
I’ve used the pressure bands with great success too!
I also buy preggo pops! Haha. Nope not pregnant but they help!
