For those of you with VGC as home resort....

There's also the 23 Dedicated 2BR's + the 23 lockoffs & 2 GV's listed to equal the possible 71 total mentioned. The total was correct and I believe Michael just missed typing the dedicated 2BR's number.
Does GCV not have dedicated studios and 1BR? They’re all lockoffs?

That's what confused me because the numbers didn't add up (and I don't think my math is that bad). Thanks.

You're welcome.

I think a lot of it depends upon what type of room you want and when you want to go. I don't own VGC but the last 2 summers, I have been able to book 1 week in a 1 bdrm at the 7 month mark.

That is definitely good to know. In the past, when I tried to rent DVC points, I was told that there weren't any studios left at the 7 month mark, but there was a 1 bedroom available. We declined at the time since we just wanted a studio. I've been on the waitlist with Disney for the Grand Californian for almost 2 years. And my first offer for a resale contract did not go well. So basically we have to decide if we wait for another resale along that fits what we are looking for (point wise) or start looking at WDW. We actually do visit WDW, I'd say at least every other year. And we have a trip planned for the Aulani later this year, where we actually rented DVC points, although I'd be surprised if the trip actually happens at this stage.

VGC contracts seem to be few and far between, so IMO, when one shows up that you like, you probably need to offer full asking price, otherwise someone else will snap it up while you are hemming and hawing. I think studios are likely almost impossible at the 7 month mark. One bedrooms are great because they have 2 bathrooms, and anything bigger than a studio has a full kitchen and in-suite laundry. However, 1 bedrooms are pricey. It was 388 points for a week in Aug.

That definitely puts it in perspective. Thanks again!

Years ago, way back in 2010, a DVC owner (not at VGC) was able to book me 5 nights in a studio at 5 months. Yeah, it is a unicorn...this was November 2010 booking for April 2011...

Hope all goes smoothly and you can join the VGC family.

I own 2 contracts for VGC (one I bought direct in 2009 and one I bought resale in 2017). I added on as I never had enough points. I have only had 1 time that I had trouble getting exactly what I wanted at 11 months and that was for Moonlight Magic a couple years ago in November. I went online about 6:30 AM pst (exactly 11 months out) and studios were already gone. I honestly forgot to go on earlier that morning. I waitlisted it and it came through about 8 months later for the 2 nights that I wanted. In hindsight, I should have booked the 1 night and then waitlisted the other, but I did not think of it at the time. Otherwise, it has not been too hard to get what I want. I book Disneyland's birthday every year with no issues. Just sad it was cancelled for this year.

I put in another offer last night and it was accepted this morning! Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes through smoothly!

You're the one that was offered 51 direct points and then had a resale offer flake out, right?

Hopefully third time is the charm!

That explains why reservations are so challenging, beyond the small number of rooms!

Just to clarify I'd say it's challenging only at 7 months. For 11 months I never worry about the opening window. When races were still happening I booked as soon as possible but RunDisney relieved that concern!

The VGC contracts are hard to come by and I put feelers out to agents all the time to "find me one" haha. I have bought two different VGC contracts now (in the past 3 months) and have paid well under market price and under asking. $165/pt (200 Pts) and $185 (100 Pts).

I have booked using friends points in the past and have always got the room that I wanted.

The only problem I've had booking at VGC is trying to get a Grand Villa during a popular time. For instance, April through June are booking up for the Grand Villa. Part of the problem is that there are only two of them. If you book around the 11 month mark you shouldn't have any problems with the other room types. At seven months, depending on the time of year, many of the room types will be gone.
