A word to the wise.....If you are thinking of doing a package with PH and dining make sure that you do not wait till the last minute. I just tried to convert my reservation from AAA room only to AAA package with dining for July 8-15 and almost could not get the package. But I kind of figured that Disney would help out if they wanted our money for the dining. There are 14 of us going. But after 2 hours in the AAA office I finally got everything switched. I certainly have learned my lesson as far as procrastinating (sp?). I just find it very hard to get 6 adults to agree on something in a timely manner. They should know by now that I need plans in place BEFORE we get there! :crazy2:

Why would they almost not let you have the package? Is there some rule that you can't convert within a certain number of days before your trip? I'm glad you got it all worked out. Have a great time!

I have a room only aaa reservation also for July. I was thinking of switching over to a package. I have a few questions:

Did you keep the same room rate with the package? Do you have to pay for the whole trip now? Do you have to have trip insurance? What is the cancellation policy?

Thanks in advance.
(I just want school to be over so we can go!)

If you want to switch to a package in order to keep the AAA discount on the room you would have to do it through a AAA travel agent. If you do it through Disney they will not give you the discount on the room (You will have to pay full price for the room). Did you book the "room only" through AAA or directly through Disney? Because if you did not book through AAA I suggest you get in touch with them ASAP because it might become a little involved. I would call and see what would have to be done!

If you do switch to a package at this time being your vacations so close you will have to pay for the package in full up front. They will go over the cancellation policy with you & you would have to decide if you want the travel insurance. :hourglass

What is the percentage off that AAA gives you with a package(with dining)? I may go this route next year and am curious. Thanks!

right now I am booked into Pop Century via AAA at about $79 a night, yet when I called Disney direct and told them I was a AAA member they quoted me a rate at about $70 a night. Not sure why it is different?

If you have a room only reservation.. ANY reservation, but even with AAA rates.. You can go to an AAA TA and have them 'Take Over' your reservation.
You must sign a permission form, and the AAA TA can take your reservation and turn it into any kind of package you want.

If the first TA can't do it.. go to a different AAA because they must not be well informed! Make sure they have a certificate from the Disney College of Knowledge or whatever it's called.

I had AAA room only ressies I made myself over the phone with Disney. I decided (just last week, and i leave in 2 weeks!) to change to a package with dining. I had a split ressie so this made it more difficult with the tickets and such.. but anyway..
I called WDW and they said to do the takeover thing with AAA cause only they can keep my room rates the same. Went to one AAA.. and she said she couldn't do it. I went to another, and she said she'd check.. she checked, and said no, but I can rebook your one ressies with the package, but they's no availability for the other resort. I took it. At least one part of my trip would have the dining plan.

Well I was confused because it's not what WDW told me so I called back to be sure. I was transferred a bit, but got to someone who was very nice and seemed very knowledeable.. she said find another agent.. it is easily do-able.
So I did.. my 3rd agent... she knew EXACTLY what I was talking about. It's NOT rebooking.. they take your original ressie, you sign a paper, and 24 hours later they have you booked with the same ressie in a package. You don't need to worry about getting a room, or if the AAA rates will be available for that room You already have the room and the rates.. she just adds the rest. And an AAA TA is the only one who can do it.

BTW.. she was the only one of the 3 with the Disney College of Knoweledge certificate.. it was showing proudly on her desk, and on the desk of the other 4 agents there too.
