For Those of You Who Have Adopted Soldiers and Are Sending CARE Packages...

how does this work? I see that the form requests name/address/e-mail address. do they e-mail you a name/address, or snail mail you one? Or do you just put a package together?

Question...I was under the impression(from news reports), that letters and packages could not be mailed due to safety concerns. Can anyone help with this?

I just got a couple of names of Operation Military Pride too. I have read a couple of threads here and just wanted to point out a few tips.

From 6/97-6/98 Dh was stationed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His is in the AF. So, I have a little experience in care packages. Make sure when you sent packages to a Muslim country that you obey their customs. If you go to www.operationmilitarypride.com there is a zip-code finder that if you put in your service members zip code it will tell you what you can/can't send to that location.

Tips for the middle east as DH was there:

Cookies travel pretty good. I would bake, seal in ziploc and then in a rubbermaid container and they would be pretty good. Believe me when DH was that far away he didnt care if they were not fresh from the oven!!! LOL!!

No inappropriate photos of women....even a picture of a woman in shorts and short sleeve shirt is inappropriate in Saudi Arabia. I could not send my DH many magazines, etc. Sometimes they would open the mail and remove, sometimes not.

Same thing for religious items....if its not Islamic, it can't go there. Someone in another thread had mentioned Easter Cards...nothing with any Christian religious affiliation can go...same for Judaic symbols. Again, sometimes the mail was checked sometimes it wasnt.

And, absolutely no alcoholic beverages or pork products ( not that many of us would mail those things anyway)

But, there are lots of things you can send...photos, snacks, note paper to write home on, etc.....check the operation pride website for some ideas.

I got the same thing , I told my kids and they can't wait to go shopping , I'm going to do it on friday since they have no school then. We have a few toiletries around the house , I am checking out also on other things, my oldest is writing them a letter and the youngest one is drawing them pictures, they are both excited.
I think we enjoy as much doing this as they will getting it.
