I like the idea of making myself go a certain distance. That way if I'm not really in the mood to be on the treadmill forever, I can run part of the way to make it go faster.
I hate treadmills but it's where I do almost all of my running as after I get home from work, eat, and take my dog for a walk it's dark (and I don't feel comfortable running around where I live [or really anywhere for that matter] at dark). I have a treadmill in my house so at least I can watch TV but it's still so boring. This week I've been running 7 miles on 3 different nights and it's been a struggle as I get bored easily. I've found one of the things that's most helpful is to read someone's exercise or running blog (find one that inspires you) before I work out or look at old pictures of myself (I used to be just over 35 lbs. heavier 4 years ago) and to put some really good music on my iTouch.
Walking outside is so much easier for me. Breathing fresh air, talking with my Mom, laughing at my dog running through the grass, it just makes time go by so much faster. I always look forward to the walks, I can't say the same all the time about my runs
