When buying your points through DVC they credit you the 2004 points as a bonus. That part i understand but what happens if you get a month that is very soon..say April and you cant use the points by then yet your not in the 6 month window to bank them? Do you loose them? What if you get a use year of february, do you still get the 2004 points too? Confused--Please Help!

If you purchase Feb points, it is already Feb of 2005, so you can ONLY get 2005 points. Now, if you got a use year of, say, June, we haven't gotten to June yet, so those points are still 2004 points. They don't get their 2005 points until June of 2005. Now, you may have figured out that you would buy, say, 150 points now, you would have 150 points to use, and get another 150 points in June, when 2005 comes for those people. It's great if you can use them, but if you were offered an April use year, for example, you couldn't bank them because it's too close to April. In that example, you either would have to take a last-minute trip, or lose the points. Wow! I only wish I had that problem to worry about--I'm firmly in a borrowing mode on my points

If the purchase is direct from DVC, then you can usually insist prior to purchase that the incoming points be banked outside of the normal rules. They aren't unreasonable about such things.

But if we're talking about a resale, you need to abide by the standard banking / usage guidelines. The resale contract has been in existence for long enough that the original owner could have used or banked the points, so no exceptions are made.

When I purchased a contract from Disney in September, the six month window had passed for my March Use Year, but my guide banked the points anyway. It was a nice bonus and made paying Disney prices a little easier to swallow!

When we bought an add on direct from Disney, they would NOT alter the banking deadline for our points (we explicitly asked) and we had in effect 40 days to use them or lose them, and very limited rental options being in the last 60 days of the use year.

Yikes! Sorry, Doctor P, seems we weren't treated exactly the same! Wonder if it was because I bought three weeks after the six month mark, and there was a little wiggle room, while your contract was very close to the end of your use year? Hope you were able to do something with them - I remember reading that your schedule for vacations is restricted...

We were contacted off the wait list one week after the 25% banking deadline and were not allowed to bank the points, so I don't think that is the issue. Glad it worked for you (of course, you may have been unknowingly using the one time lifetime banking exception that some people have talked about).
