For those of you living in one of the original 13 Colonies

WOW! I knew the DIS was good - but you guys are better than Google & Ask Jeeves combined!

I plan to print this out & save it for vacation ideas.

We are across the river from Leesburg and will probably be hitting Fort Frederick with the cub scouts before Spring ends. (Of course, it doesn't feel like it's hit here today.)

Any other ideas?

mom2boys - try to get to August Court Days. The reenactors will answer questions and they interact with the visitors. It costs about $5 and is on a Saturday and Sunday in the middle of August.

I live in Central Ma and have a wealth of knowledge all within several hours drive. We could go to Boston, Sturbridge as another poster said, etc. I live 3 minutes from the Old Common in our town. In one undergrad. class I took a history of the Blackstone Valley and had to do a presentation. I learned so much and even found out something about an area the instructor did not know. I love American history!

Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia

The Lost Colony, in Manteo, NC (Outer Banks area)

St. Augustine, FL (although not an original colony, it's from the same time frame)

I grew up in SC, but can't think of anything worth traveling to see, just county museums that had recreations. There's TONS of historic stuff in Charleston, but nothing like the recreated villages I've mentioned above....

Not a settlement but many homes and churches from the Revolution era. I was born in Quincy and have lived near it all my life. I still haven't seen everything that's there.

Ooh ooh ooh!!! We LIVE in St. Mary's City!!! You can see our house in the winter from the visitor's center! It's great! And if you go to the Spray Plantation, you'll meet a friend of ours who "plays" Godiah Spray.

If you want to meet, feel free to pm me!

We don't have one in my area. We have a national park for the civil war, but nothing about being an original colony. Atleast as far as I know, we don't have anything.

We have Old Salem, a colonial Moravian village. There also are lots and lots of battlegrounds and state historic sites. In NC, state historic sites are free -- I was surprised when I traveled to New England and had to pay for everything.
