For those of you ladies trying to get pregnant.

A friend of mine and her husband have been trying to get pregnant for over a year now and she found this site www.fertilityfriend.com

It gives you the same advice as the doctor does pertaining to temp. charts etc. You can track your progress right there and it will tell you when the best time to try is.

I just thought I would share this with those of you who are trying to have a baby. I can't see spending money on doctors and drugs when this may be all you need.

My wife and I were trying for a boy with our 3rd child and ended up with twin girls. Guess someone is trying to tell me something.

Sounds like a good site for general information. The first thing the doctor will want a person to do is use the charts, it's a great place to start. If you can bring that information with you to your first appointment, you will be well ahead of the game. It took several months for me to get an appointment, so the doctor had me do the charts while I was waiting.

But someone who has been trying to get pregnant for over a year needs to see a specialist. If you are a little older, in your 30's, you shouldn't wait for longer than 6 months. The problem may be something minor that can be corrected right away, it could be a problem with the man that needs to be diagnosed. It could be unexplained infertility, lengthy fertility treatments may be required. Don't wait! At least get an appointment with your PCP or OB/GYN. They can do some initial testing for prolactin, thyroid function, etc. Then get your referral to the specialist. At least you will have an appointment.

DH and I have had alot of success in getting pregnant (3 times in the last 6 months), but bad luck with miscarriages. As far as conceiving, I bought ovusoft software which is all about charting and checking other fertility signs. Sounds similar to the software linked above. However, I don't think I could have really done it without a fertility monitor. They are wonderful. I would chart my symptoms and just be unsure about things sometimes, or things weren't adding up, but the fertility monitor tells you what days are good days and what days are GREAT days. I think both the software and the monitor hand in hand really eliminate all the guesswork out of trying to conceive. I wouldn't use one without the other.

My advice to anyone trying is to definitely by one. They aren't cheap - about $200, plus $50 for approx 3 months of test sticks, but they can be found on ebay for a bit less. Remember, you can always sell it on ebay once you are done and recoup alot of your money as well.

I was wondering about those monitors. I have seen several at local stores but you are right quite pricy. I suppose it is not as bad as paying for fertility drugs though.

I can vouch for the fertility monitor. DH and I were trying to conceive for over a year. We finally broke down and get the monitor. Used it one month and now we are 25 weeks pregnant. Its easy to use -- I highly recommend it. To us, it was definitely worth the $200 price tag!

I can vouch for Fertility Friend and the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. I used them both and got pg the first try. I had an early m/c but got pg again the 2nd month we tried and I am now 14 weeks, 4 days pg. If I hadnt charted I would not have known that I was ovulating around the 22nd day of my cycle instead of the 14th day.

I highly recommend reading the book and starting with the charting for several months before trying other options.

I can tell you that monitors, charting, temps, and the like are all great for those ladies lucky enough to conceive within a few months of trying. For those of us who struggle for a year or longer, unfortunately, we may need tests and procedures and possibly even drugs to help us along.

If you've been trying with the aid of monitors, etc. for over a year and have not been successful, I recommend seeing a doctor.

the monitors are great...if you have a fairly regular cycle...we never invested in one. we'd been trying for awhile...no success, so i bought the book taking charge of your fertility and read it cover to cover...fascinated by it! we charted for a few months but were still unsuccessful.

i ended up seeing my doctor about it. since i am extremely irregular, it was just too difficult to pinpoint ovulation. so she's put us on clomid. we are now on round 3 of clomid. she's actually got me doing clomid, estrogen, and progesterone to help maximize my cycle. talk about hormonal insanity!

we get one more shot with the clomid treatments if this one doesn't work...and then we begin additional infertility testing. here's hoping we're successful without any invasive testing!
