Ive been trying to deal with all of my frustration over Florida, California, Arizona (and Arkansas) and trying to keep a sense of humor. I could fly to Vegas and marry a guy one day and then divorce him the next and thats ok. I could walk down the street with a semi-automatic weapon, kill a bunch of people and although I might get locked up for a while I could still marry a man. But I couldnt marry another woman no matter how loving or committed our relationship might be.
All of these propositions are based on other people imposing their opinions on us. Now I havent done any research but I know that in most states to get something on the ballot all you need to do is get a certain number of signatures ... I think we can handle that! So I suggest that we create a proposition and call it something like the "Marriage Protection Proposition" or "Family Strength Amendment" with some vague wording that it is designed to "enhance the institution of marriage and family structure". Since most people dont take the time to educate themselves they probably wont read any further & we can push through a whole bunch of stuff like:
- in order to marry all couples must provide college diplomas (hey, if youre not willing to put the work into college then you probably arent willing to put effort into marriage, plus it might weed out some really stupid folks!)
- divorce will now be illegal (sanctity seems to be mighty important!)
- married couples must adopt (this will give all kids a happy loving home). Now this one could be tricky - I say every couple has to adopt at least one until all the kids have homes and then if there are any left over well go down the list alphabetically.
- marriages must be performed on Tuesdays (no real reason here, just that Tuesday seems to be an off day and the weekends are too busy)
- marriage license fees will be increased to $1000 and all funds will be deposited into HRC (well tell them it stands for Happy Responsible Couples)
I think we've got people here representing all the affected states so let's start moving!
