For those in the NE - how long to drive from Newark to Buffalo?

Since many of you live in the northeast, I'm hoping you can give me some travel advice. We are going on a Canada cruise this summer that leaves from Bayonne, NJ. Afterwards, we would like to see Niagara Falls. Our problem is - we aren't quite sure the best way to get from Bayonne to Niagara Falls. We thought about flying, but decided that a taxi to La Guardia would cost as much as renting a car. The first question is - is there an easy (cheap) way to get from Bayonne to La Guardia? If not, then how feasible is it to drive? Mapquest shows that it will take 6 hours and 10 minutes to Buffalo. Is this accurate? How are the speed limits on the interstates? 65 or 70? Also, portions are toll roads. Does anyone know how much the tolls would be? I know that toll costs can add up rapidly!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

About 8 hours - if you drive fast like my DH. But really, it depends on the hours that you're driving. If you're driving at night, you can really make time quickly. We drove from Buffalo to NYC in just over 6 hours - in the middle of the night. It's a cake drive.

Don't know if it will matter to you or not, but Rte. 17, which goes right along the bottom of New York state, is a nice, easy way to go east.

Your other choice is Newark airport, since your already in Jersey. You might want to check Jetblue.com. They fly out of JFK into Buffalo, not that expensive.

If you were to drive it would take you approx 61/2-7 hrs. You have to understand your driving about 1/2 hr past Buffalo to get to Niagara Falls. The speed limit is 65, with plenty of rest stops along the way.
