Tonight we had a discussion about a particular part of Monsters, Inc.

This conversation took place in what will very soon be the Library of the VMK Adventurers Club! We're still moving things around, a few more things to buy, and I'm hoping for an answer on the "BEAR" issue soon....

....but I digress....

Here's where the phrase "Get A Paper Bag" comes from...

Put Monsters, Inc. in your DVD Player, and fast-forward it to the chapter where Celia and Mike are in Harryhausen's (the sushi restaurant). Notice that it's a Japanese-style restaurant, with an octopoid at the hibachi, etc etc. Whenever anyone comes in the door, everyone screams something....

....now, TURN ON YOUR SUBTITLES, and watch the scene. You'll see it translates it as "Get a paper bag!!"

Anyways, thanks to all who came by to see how things were progressing. Just for the record, here's the list of

HOW THE "PAPER BAG" game is to be played.(or at least our ideas for it)...

- whenever anyone new enters the room, everyone screams "GET A PAPER BAG!"

- the last person to yell this has to do something silly (as mandated by the FIRST person to yell it). Nothing that will get you banned, of course....

Let's see what silliness we can get away with on there. Nothing violent or harsh....just silly! Make people laugh! Make each other laugh! Let's try and trade purple doors to a complete stranger for another set of purple doors (tell them they're kinda squeaky, they're haunted, or something) and see if they do it. Ask for fashion advice ("Does purple hair make me look fat?") Pick a random person on your friends list and sing them a love song...Once they know it's part of a joke, and in good fun, they'll probably enjoy it too (I hope).

Ya know, with all the Taken, mummy/bay be, and other nastiness going on around VMK, it should be a refreshing change to see folks just on to have some silly fun....the way it should be.
Yes, we all know that VMK's been harsh (and in some cases "hitler-istic") with their bans, and they've unjustly done so in more than a few cases. But if we exercise some common sense, courtesy, willingness to follow the rules (if only testing their limits) and just plain silliness, I'm really hoping that the VMk staff see this project for what it really is. Something really fun and funny.

....ok I'm through ranting.....

thats very silly but sounds like alot of fun, i will have to stop in and give it a try sometime

I would like to get other people's opinions about my suggestion last night
that it might be a good idea to stop singing the Beer Song. For those
who don't know it, it's sung at the Adventurers Club by the Colonel character
every once in a while, and it goes like this:

Dough, with which, I buy my beer
Ray, the guy I buy beer from
Me, the guy I buy beer for,
Far.......the distance to the store!
So.....I think I'll have a beer!
La.....la la la la la la!
Tea? No thanks, I'll have a beer!
Which will bring us back to doiugh!

Anyway, substitute "bear" for "beer", and it really edges on the fine line of
VMK values. I know that Surferrat got a ban when he had a bar serving
"adult beverages" in his Surf Spot room, and I didn't want to see DeeJay
get one similar if he sings that song.

Does anyone else think he should use caution about that song? Or do you
feel that he can sing it and not have to worry about the Big White Glove
coming down on him?

I realize worse things are said by kids that go against VMK values, but I
feel you're just playing Russian Roulette until the Big White Glove finds you.

Absolutely DO NOT SING that song!!

I have been in the Surf Spot when staff came to remind us that saying the names of "adult" drinks will get you banned.

A suggestion perhaps would be to sing, "Route Bear" instead. :teeth:

wonderful suggestion and sounds good too..... :rotfl2: yes i would not sing that song either for fear of the white glove

not only do I agree with the fact that we shouldn't put ourselves/others at risk of being banned, I do appreciate the fact that we're looking out for each other. In the spirit of Dis, we should all continue to do so.

However....

I feel this is one of those issues where, although we do not wish to break the rules, we can follow them with contempt. Sarcasm with an anti-establishment flair? I'm not quite sure how to put it.....Sort of a "HEY, we're following the rules....WE DON'T WANT TO, but we are...and YOU CAN'T PROVE THAT WE AREN'T!" thing. Push the limits, but don't go beyond them.....

....I challenge everyone to appeal to their inner "Stitch" here. What would you recommend?

I had fun for the brief time I was in the room last night. But, the funniest thing is that I had no idea what was going on until I just read this post! :rotfl:
