For the First Time in Forever...we finally get to go back!! a pre trip report

Great find at Goodwill and nice job on the shirts! :thumbsup2
Thanks!! :cutie:

Yes, it’s tough trying to work out meet-ups and still make your plans. The times I’ve met (non-DIS-er) people I know at WDW we’ve either run into each-other on accident or just met up for certain things (a meal or a ride or an event). Worked pretty well. It’s fun to share Disney with friends. :goodvibes
Yeah I think maybe the best option will be to meet up for something specific and then afterward be like "ok we're gonna go do ____. Wanna join us or are you guys off to do something else?"

Sounds like you have a good list of options during your rider swaps. Are you planning to do single-rider on Test Track (vs. FP+)?
I'm planning single-rider if we do it at all. I feel like we could spend an entire day in Future world but I want to do World Showcase too. But with leaving for Chef Mickey's I'm just not sure if we can do it all lol...ok we cant...but ya know what I mean.
We do have 1 "free day" on Friday where we will go back to a park (not MK cause that has a planned second day) but no hoppers so we'd be at whatever park we choose the whole day. I'm split between HS and Epcot, so currently I have FP booked at HS since Toy Story Mania FPs are more likely to disappear but we can change those after we hit both HS and Epcot and decide which one we need a second day in. I was thinking HS but they've closed so many things that I think as long as Caden doesn't have a total meltdown that day, we will likely accomplish everything we're hoping for, leaving the free day open for a second day at Epcot. And that lets us have fun with friends if we want and throw out the plan if needed, as well as being able to wander and enjoy World Showcase and all the little shows and things to see. But Friday is Andrew's birthday so ultimately it'll be up to him. WOW!! Stream of consciousness much?

Ha, it’s probably good your plans are fairly flexible that day since you don’t know what your friends are planning. Are they big planners or pretty spontaneous? Just thinking about if you can get them to commit to any certain plan or if you’ll just have to improvise that day. Either way, it sounds like you have a reasonable (very do-able) number of goals that day and should be able to get what you want done even if they take you off course.
I think they would definitely commit to a specific meeting time and place, but mostly they're kinda go with the flow type.
Also they seem rather overwhelmed about the whole thing lol. So they may get there, see we have a plan, and decide to just go along with our plan for a while, cause it's already made. haha
The parents have been to Epcot before but I don't think the girls have. This is a trip to see family in FL and they're doing 1 day at Disney and 1 at Universal as a surprise for the girls. I think once they surprise the girls with it (right before Christmas) they'll have a better idea of what they want to do because the girls are more decisive. (12 and 14 yrs old). I think the mom just doesn't really know what to expect.

I need to go to the goodwill more often! What a great find!
Your shirts look awesome!

Your day looks great. I think you have great goals with reasonable flexibility for those lets just stop and do this moments!

Ok well I'm terrible at this...lol so much for an update for each day of our trip...Dugette, how do you keep up with that?!?!

Ok Tuesday the 6th - Hollywood Studios day

This morning will begin with rope drop. Our night before might be kinda late cause of Illuminations/going back to epcot after dinner...or honestly we may call it a day after dinner and head to the hotel. Not sure yet. I'm about 90% sure that our "free day" is going to end up being at Epcot and that day has EMH til 11pm at Epcot so we may just wait and do evening stuff that day instead.

Anyway, so this morning we're gonna aim to be at the park around 8:30 :crazy2: Makes me tired just thinking about it haha...but I'll be all excited so it probably won't be that hard lol

First thing we will head to TSM as long as we seem to be at the front of the pack. Ride that then head straight over to meet with Buzz and Woody. Then we have a FP for TSM again from 9:30-10:30. Then I think we'll head to Great Movie Ride and maybe hit a few characters. After that we'll aim for Disney Jr Live and explore the annimation building. Maybe we can get a few more characters (Mickey and Baymax) without too horrible a wait. Then we have Disney Jr lunch at 12:15 (originally had this scheduled for breakfast at 10:30 but it was killing me to waste so much morning touring time at a meal when I didn't even think we'd be hungry...cause none of us were going to be able to wait til 10:30 to eat our first meal, we would have had to eaten before leaving the hotel. So I kept stalking for a better time and finally a 12:15 opened up yay!)
After lunch we'll encourage Caden to nap, probably will need to find a quiet corner and rock the stroller til he crashes. Then Andrew and I will do baby swap on Star Tours (FP+ 1:25-2:25), I'll probably do Rockin Roller Coaster once in the single rider line, and we may try and hit CharacterPalooza at 2:30 (if I did my math right). Otherwise, we'll just enjoy some ambiance and wander. We both enjoy HS. Maybe go back and enjoy the Streets of America. He will likely nap for 2 hrs. He's pretty consistent, even in the stroller. lol

Once he wakes up from his nap we'll do the Frozen Sing along (FP 3:25-3:40...show should end about 4:15) Then head back to meet with Mike and Sulley and McQueen and Mater. As we wander we'll aim to hit a Jedi Training to watch (there's one at 5:30). I know Caden will like seeing Darth Vader. I also want to fit Little Mermaid in there too somewhere, we may get that in in the morning if our "must do" plans don't take too long.

We'll grab some dinner at Pizza Planet (SIDE NOTE...again...Caden is currently OBSESSED with Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear. His giant Buzz toy has gone everywhere with us the last few days and we've watched the movie like 10 times. lol I'm really glad though cause there's so much Toy Story stuff at the park. I know he's going to love it all!)

And then last thing for the night is to get in line for TSM around 6:50 (park closes at 7). I've read tons of people who say the line is short right before closing even if the posted time is long. So we're jumping in!

Once that ride is done, we'll wander our way out of the park...hopefully making it to the busses BEFORE Fantasmic releases. And we'll do an "early" night tonight. Tomorrow is MK rope drop!!

I'm feeling much better about this park after moving our late breakfast to a lunch. I know I can acomplish way more in the morning than at any other time and I hated that we were going to be eating/character breakfasting for an hour of prime time. That's like 3 rides!

Also, I read a TR that Dugette linked into one of her reports and it totally changed my outlook on this trip. The lady in the TR had planned and planned and planned and then when things weren't exactly right it was really frustrating her and she wasn't having such a great time because things weren't always just right. Then she got a horrible call that her father had died and had to go right home. They ended up coming back a few weeks later cause they found a good deal and had promised their kids they'd return. On the return trip, she relaxed and said "screw it! we're just gonna have fun and I don't care if it's perfect!" and they had way more fun and relaxed and just had a wonderful time. And it made me realize that I was going into this trip with her first mindset, after 3 years of waiting and planning I wanted everything to be just right and I want to show caden EVERYTHING. But I feel like I've kinda reigned it in and I'm going in with a plan but loosening it up and we're going to have fun. And if the plan goes out the window...it goes out the window. I've tried to put the "must dos" at the beginning of the day so that we're sure to get those in and then the rest will be gravy. Here's hoping I can actually keep this mindset once we're there!

Ok first...I got crafty today :)
I decorated our magic bands! I was so nervous I would ruin them but finally I decided to just DO it! And they turned out nicely! I'm happy with them!

I still have to do a Star Wars one for Andrew (gray band) and my student is doing a Rapunzel one for me (pink band). I wasn't quite sure yet what I wanted to do for the Star Wars band and Andrew isn't home tonight (stupid work) so I decided to just wait on that one.

Next we have our MK day....and I need to go plan it...lol...I'll be back in a bit!

Ha, I know it's hard to keep up with the day-by-day plans. I have to really keep myself on track with those and carve out the time and remind myself it's just for a week (or whatever).

Yeah, that late night and early morning stuff is tough. But Disney is good motivation!

Good call on changing your meal to lunch. I agree - the morning is too precious to waste on dining.

For naptime, one of the best spots we've found is across from the exit/gift shop of Tower of Terror. There's a little covered area hidden back there with some benches and hardly anyone knew about it. Quiet and cool.

I am so excited that the Frozen sing-along is sticking around! Izzy was singing along to Let It Go tonight and I couldn't believe how much of it she knew the words to - I think she will love it in May!

You're certainly planning to get in a lot of Toy Story Mania! :thumbsup2 Now that you say that, I do remember riding once (years ago) late at night and the line was under 30 minutes, so not bad.

I am glad you were able to take a good look at your mindset and let go of the need to have things always go according to plan. Chances are, you'll be off plan at some point, especially with a toddler, but hopefully you'll be making some great memories you couldn't have planned. I know we've had tons of that. Just thinking of things like Izzy needing to free all.the.Minnies from the Club Cool gift shop, for instance - wouldn't have planned it, but fun memory. And many more like that. Of course, the problem is that it makes you want to go back to make up for any deviations from the plan where you missed something. :rolleyes1

Cool! Thanks for the tip! Sounds perfect! once he's asleep we'll be good to go, however I'm noticing lately that he does NOT want to miss anything and he can just keep going until he crashes...But then the crashes are BAD!!! Screaming and sobbing and collapsing on the ground. So I know that we'll need to make sure naps happen and we'll likely need to get away from all stimulation to give him a chance to chill out and fall asleep.

You're certainly planning to get in a lot of Toy Story Mania! :thumbsup2 Now that you say that, I do remember riding once (years ago) late at night and the line was under 30 minutes, so not bad.
Lol yeah, it's Andrew's favorite, Caden loves Toy Story, and I love the ride too. And since I'm thinking we likely won't make it back to HS this trip, we gotta get our fill in 1 day.

LOL Well I guess we'll just have to plan another trip! I have a feeling Andrew is aware that we will have to have a plan to return before he's going to be able to drag be back on the plan to STL. Maybe I better mention it to him lol
We've already discussed that we likely won't be able to make it til the next child is 3. Even if we get pregnant soon, that would be almost 4 years before another trip. Ain't happening!!
I'm thinking maybe we'll aim for a trip around age 5 for Caden (so I guess either 4.5 or 5.5 cause it'd have to be in Jan. We now refuse to go to Disney World any other time! lol)

Ok Magic Kingdom Wednesday the 7th

Today is a rope drop day :cool1: I LOVE MK rope drop and I know Caden will enjoy it too. Plus we called it a night relatively early last night so I'm thinking we'll start this day fresh and ready to go. Hopefully!

We'll plan to be to the bus stop by 8a, arriving at MK around 8:30. I'm not aiming for any big rides so honestly as long as we arrive before the opening show starts, I'm good.

Then I'm kinda torn...part of me thinks we should go to Fantasyland and get some of the smaller rides done while everyone is running to 7DMT. (Peter Pan, Dumbo, Little Mermaid). However those 3 rides were my goals for our arrival night so HOPEFULLY we will have already ridden them. So I'm wondering if we want to hit Adventure land right at the beginning and do Pirates, Jungle Cruise, and Haunted Mansion first thing before lines get long. Then head to fantasyland where we have FP+ scheduled starting at 10:30.

So we're going to go as if we're doing adventure land first and lets see what happens... (also Andrew called as I was doing this and he agreed that we should mix it up and do Adventure Land first. AND Touring plans says my plans will work out JUST right timing wise! I must be getting good at this!)

Ok so when the doors open, we may stop quickly and see talking Mickey first off if we didn't see him on our arrival night.
Then to Pirates of the Carribean. Caden LOVES pirates right now so I'm thinking he'll like this ride. Maybe we'll do a Pirates of the Carribean movie night before we go. Let him see the more scary pirates and see how he does. Maybe not the first one with all the skeletons. They're freaky!!
After Pirates we'll hit Jungle Cruise
Then maybe grab the Flying Carpets if Caden seems interested (I've never ridden them actually).
Then we'll head to Fantasyland by way of the Haunted Mansion.

We have a FP+ for Peter Pan at 10:20, I'm thinking we'll then swing over to little mermaid and ride that, maybe meet Ariel if the line isn't crazy, then hit Pooh or the Carousel (probably the Carousel cause he LOVES them) if we still have time to kill.
Next FP+ is Meet with Rapunzel and Cinderella at 11:20. We'll either need to stop in a bathroom and change Caden into his Flynn costume, or he can just wear it to the park that morning. I'm planning for him to wear it to the park but we'll see how amiable he's feeling in the morning lol
After that I'm thinking we'll hit the tea cups and maybe Mickey's Philharmagic.
Next FP+ is 7 dwarves mine train at 12:20. (After our ride we'll stop at the kiosk near Mickey's Philharmagic and we're aiming for an Buzz FP next...preferably around 4ish?)
Then we have a BOG FP from 12:30-1p...
After that it's nap time for Caden. Then Andrew and I will wander and enjoy...something. IDK what. Probably shop. I wanna get an ornament at the Christmas shop. And the Main Street shops are always great to look thru!
Around 2:30 we'll go stake out a spot for the parade. IDK which way the parade goes, but we may try and get a spot a little further down the path so that Caden can sleep a little past 3 before we wake him up for a parade.
After the parade we'll head over for our Buzz FP (hopefully around 4ish?).
After that we'll grab a FP for ETWB for around 7 (kiosk near Stitch).
Then maybe hit 1 more ride (probably Carousel of Progress) before heading out to our ADR at Whispering Canyon Cafe at 5:25p.
I'm expecting to be done there around 6:45 (we're fast eaters) and hoping to be back at MK by 7. We'll have little time to hit our ETWB FP and then ride 1 more ride maybe? Probably we'll stay in fantasyland and watch the fireworks from back there. We LOVED the new view last time.

If we don't watch Wishes I'm thinking we'll head out and try and beat the bus traffic. I THINK the park closes at 8 this evening and wishes are at 8pm.

Good thing we have 1 more day here! We're gonna need it!!
Still need a train ride (this may pop in somewhere in the day), Tomorrowland Speedway!! another ride on Dumbo, and I think Caden would love exploring Tom Sawyer's Island. Etc. So those will be for our last day I guess!

I'm gonna go ahead and do AK too...cause I have it planned out already and it's a short day.

Ok this morning our goal is to arrive around 9:15/9:30a.
First we'll head straight to Festival of the Lion King for the 10a show.
Then around the corner to Kilimanjaro Safari to use our 10-11a FP+ around 10:30ish
Next we'll walk thru the Maharajah Jungle Trek. I love all the flags hanging and I love the tigers. Our tigers at the zoo are kinda far away so I know Caden will like seeing some closer up.
Then we're off to Finding Nemo. Goal is to arrive there at 11:45 for the noon show.
Then to TriceraTop Spin (maybe)
and let Caden play in the Boneyard for 20-30 min.
Then we're going to grab Caden some food on our way out of the park and we're heading to DTD for lunch.
Andrew and I will MOST likely eat at Wolfgang Puck Express...the goal being that Caden will fall asleep on the bus or soon after in the stroller and will sleep thru our lunch and some shopping.
We'll hang out there and wander til about 6 when we'll go find a bus and head to Boma for our 7pm ADR.
I'd like to get there around 6:30 and go outside to see the animals before dinner.

After that we're calling it a night and heading to Pop. If we're still wired maybe we'll hit the pool but otherwise we'll head to the room and chill and get to bed early. I'm sure we'll need it by then!

I know this is a slim day at AK...it's just not a big favorite for us. I know there are other things we would enjoy (like the flights of wonder) but I'm not going to regret skipping them and I would regret missing a meal at WPE and shopping at DTD. So DTD won out.

If we are just having a BLAST we could always stay at AK and hit DTD the next day on our "Free day" either before or after going to whatever park we choose (probably epcot). So this is a kinda play it by ear plan...but only if we just can't bear to leave AK

Friday the 9th - Free day - Andrew's 30th Birthday!!!

This is our open day. I'm expecting to do either Epcot or HS this day. Andrew's favorite ride is in HS so that's where I made our FPs but after typing up our Epcot day, I'm thinking we're going to want more time there. But Epcot will be easy to get FPs for even if we decide the day before.

Either park we hit will be just a chill kinda day, hit some favorites, watch the firework show at either park, etc. I have a feeling this is the day we're gonna want hopper passes :( On all other trips this has been our 2-3 parks day where we jump around hitting all our favorite rides one more time. However the hopper is just not worth the cost for 1 day. So we're gonna have to just make a decision!

If we don't make it to DTD on Thursday (AK day) then we'll do DTD this day instead after hitting a park in the am.

Dinner is at 'Ohana at 6:50p and Epcot has EMH til 11 (another + for epcot)

Saturday the 10th - Magic Kingdom - Going home day :sad::sad:

This morning we'll aim for Rope Drop at MK, even with a late night the night before.

This will be a day of hitting some favorites and anything we missed.
Must Do's will be:
Tomorrowland Speedway
Ride the Train (pretty sure we won't actually manage to not ride this before this day...it's probably gonna happen EVERY MK day)
Buzz again
7DMT (10:40a FP+...we may let this one go if Andrew and Caden hate the ride on Wednesday. Roller coasters are not really our thing but it looks mild)
Anna and Elsa (11:40a FP+)
Peter Pan (12:40 FP+)

Beyond those we'll just make a plan after our two MK days and see what we want to hit again.

I also want to make sure we meet Peter Pan (with Caden in costume!). Kenny says he meets 12:25-1p, 3:40-4:10p, and 4:40-5:25p. Again, IDK if Caden will wear his costume all day or just change into it before going to meet Peter. I'll see how he's feeling.

Then we need to leave the park around 3ish, Tragical Express picks us up around 3:45/4p :drive: and then our flight is at 6:55p :sad::sad:

Then I go home and do laundry from Christmas/Trip to Topeka/Disney :laundy:....ok actually I just wanted to use that smiley lol

Wow lady you are an updating machine!

Looks like it's going to be a great trip! I think you are taking a great approach. Plans with flexibility! Totally feel you on the AK thing, it's fun, but a bunch of time is just not necessary there.

Love your magic bands! It's so fun you get two sets! I can't wait to see your Rapunzel ones!

Wow! Lots of plans! They all sound good and very do-able to me. You're going to have such a great time!!

The magic bands look great! You did an awesome job!

Cool! Thanks for the tip! Sounds perfect! once he's asleep we'll be good to go, however I'm noticing lately that he does NOT want to miss anything and he can just keep going until he crashes...But then the crashes are BAD!!! Yeah, Izzy is very resistant to napping if she thinks she'll miss something too. At Disney, the things that put her to sleep were standing at the FP+ kiosks and standing in line at Gaston's - boring! :rotfl2: Pretty much anything with a counter and nothing else to look at should do the trick, if you need to find a place.

Oh, good, you do have a rope drop planned for MK! Caden will love it, I’m sure. I still have to get Izzy to one. By the way, I just read on another TR that you can watch the characters all come down from the train station and interact with each other afterwards, if you wait after the show by the stairs. I’d never heard that before, but it looked cool in the pics (DisneyKid4Life’s current TR).

Yay for Pirates! One of my favorite memories from August is Izzy learning how to sing Yo Ho while in line there. Too cute! :lovestruc

Can’t go wrong with the carousel and a toddler – winning combination! :thumbsup2

If you need anything else to do during naptime, you could do one of the adventures – I know Dug did the Pirates one and Sorcerers of the MK and enjoyed them.

I think the later part of the parade would be down in the Town Square area? But double check that, since I’m notoriously bad with directions. :rotfl2:

Sounds like a good nap plan to have lunch and shop at Downtown Disney. Spoiler for Hawaii, but Izzy slept through two of our meals in her stroller and it was AWESOME! :cloud9: So nice to have that break and enjoy the meal. And you’ll have an easier time shopping that way too.

Mmmm, Boma. I really wanted to go to dinner there on our trip last December, but there was just no sensible way to work it in. Yummy. Maybe you can do the night-vision goggles afterwards too.

Oh, one thing I was going to mention about AK – in August, we ended up having some of our best character meets there. Not what I was expecting the day to be about, but it was. Mickey/Minnie we did twice (once short wait, once FP+), we ran across Daisy with a short line, same with Baloo and King Louie, and Chip and Dale were a hit over at Rafiki’s Planet Watch (which reminds me - you may need to go there, since it's a train ride ::yes::)! Maybe more, I can’t remember right now. Oh, also, since you’ll have Memory Maker, take advantage of that everywhere too – we attempted a Magic Shot somewhere in AK (tree of life in background) – I think it was a Tinkerbell holding one, but Izzy wasn’t in a good mood for it, so not a great pic. But be sure to stop whenever you can to maximize your photos!

Yeah, 7 Dwarfs is a pretty mild coaster. Plus a dark ride in the middle of it.

Haha, Tragical Express! :lmao: Sad, though.

Plans sound good – I’m so excited for your trip! :hyper:

yeah...I was on a roll! Andrew's been out of town for work so I've been updating to distract myself at night.

Thanks! I can't wait to see Rapunzel too!!! I hope he does them quickly! I so excited!

Cool! I just went and found his TR. Looks cool! Maybe we'll pause there before heading to Mickey.
And yes! We LOVE MK rope drop. I'm hoping to be there for it twice (wed and sat)

If you need anything else to do during naptime, you could do one of the adventures – I know Dug did the Pirates one and Sorcerers of the MK and enjoyed them.
Good idea! I forgot those existed. They're new since we last went.

Ok cool. I'll do some searching.

Yeah I'm thinking it'll be quite nice! Haha! He's really very good at restaurant meals. But It would be nice to turn off the mommy brain for a little while.

Mmmm, Boma. I really wanted to go to dinner there on our trip last December, but there was just no sensible way to work it in. Yummy. Maybe you can do the night-vision goggles afterwards too.
Oh man! We LOVE Boma. This is one of our repeats from last trip (so is Whispering Canyon Cafe). I'm not sure how Caden will do but he'll eat mac and cheese so meh, whatever. He used to be such a good eater, he'd eat whatever I put in front of him. Now? Mac and Cheese and chicken nuggets. :-P I don't even know how that happened!! I haven't stopped putting the other food in front of him. Ugh! Toddlers!

Good to know. I'll be ready to be derailed from our plan by characters :)
And yeah, I looked at Rafiki's planet watch, but it just seemed like a lot of time for something minimal at the end. I'm so not fascinated by AK. If AK didn't have Nemo and Festival of the Lion King we'd skip it. As it is we're pretty much just going for those 2 shows. lol

Plans sound good – I’m so excited for your trip! :hyper:
Oh man! Me too!!! Although, I'm starting to hit that "eh, I don't even care any more" point. I think it's me trying to protect my emotions if things go wrong, or for when we come home and I don't have disney to dream about anymore. It's been so much my coping mechanism when things aren't going great, or when I'm feeling down. I just think about some element of how things will be when we take Caden...imagine him watching Wishes, or seeing mickey the first time, or riding Peter Pan etc and it's my happy place. And in less than a month it'll all be over  I'm not supposed to have post disney depression BEFORE disney even gets here!! Bah!
