Or perhaps Marvel would be a more apt comparison.
Even though Bioware games follow a formula there was something magical about the old Bioware games.
The world's they created were full of deep and interesting lore, the characters were lovable and memorable, and despite following a formula the stories were engaging.
Mass Effect Andromeda was not the worst game in the world but many felt it lacked the magic of previous Bioware games. For some reason old Bioware felt like they could have been a studio that was owned by Disney.
After the disappointment with Andromeda and Anthem hopefully Veilguard is a return to form.
"Baldur's Gate 3" was been considered by many in the game community to be a successor to the old BioWare Baldur's Gate games.
Former BioWare and Naughty Dog(Uncharted, The Last of Us) have formed their own studio that is bankrolled by "Wizards of the Coast", who have made an ungodly amount of money on the little game called "Dungeons & Dragons" no pun intended and are making a sci fi action game.

And the guy writing the story for Exodus is the same guy who wrote the stories for Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect 1, and Mass Effect 2.
