They are now flying out of Newburg, NY in Orange county!!!(SWF)
They will have direct flights to Orlando(MCO), Ft Laurderdale, and West Palm Beach.
I am so excited!!!! This airport is about 25 min. from my house!!
It's not on the airports website yet, but it's on Jetblue's site!

**They will start flying out in 2007 and you can buy the tickets now.**

I was so excited when I heard about this earlier today. We are only about 45 minutes from Stewart and would rather fly out of there than Albany if we can.

I checked their website and the flights start Dec. 19 - too late for my upcoming trip but definately in the mix for the next one!

This is awesome. Though mileage wise Newark is probably closer to where I am, this airport will be alot easier to get in and out of. I remember rumors of this about a year or two ago. Nice to see it finally came about. Not a big fan of flying but when I do, I only fly JetBlue.

I'm going to hijack my own thread! Where in Rockland are you from? We are in Orange county now, Goshen, but lived in Rockland, in Stony Point for a few years(my mom is still there)and then Pomona for 2 years, and then Nanuet for 2 years! Is Newark really closer for you?
I agree it will be so much easier to get in and out of this airport!

I was so excited when I saw this. SWF is under a half hour from us...we're near Poughkeepsie.

Also, AirTran is going to be flying from SWF as well starting next year.

Anyone know which usually has better fares? Jetblue or AirTran? Is AirTran just as good as Jetblue? We flew Jetblue for the first time in May and loved it!!

Count me as another person VERY happy about jetblue out of stewart airport.Only 20-25 minute ride from here in Sugarloaf. As for Airtran, I flew them 3 weeks ago to orlando out of westchester airport.Great airline and the airport was easy to get to.Airtran sometimes has really great rates to mco.( $49.00 each way....not bad). :cool1:

Hi neighbor!! :teeth:
It's so cool to see other DIS'ers from my area! I'm in Goshen.

Both airlines are offering $89 intro fares. Doesn't help me for next week or xmas week. Now all we need is Southwest. :thumbsup2

I'm happy about this too in Sullivan County! Especially after driving to philly (3hrs) for Southwest for our trip a couple of weeks ago. I just hope these airlines are comparable to the $117 round trip I got with Southwest.

OMG! $117 round trip! :faint: I would love to get a rate like that!

Desnik - We live in Nanuet now. I grew up across the border in Bergen County then lived in Nyack for a year. After that we bought a condo in Pomona, lived there for 2 years then bought a house in Nanuet a year ago. My sister and her husband live in New Windsor. If Newburgh is farther away mileage wise, it is not by much.

As for the comparisian of Jetblue and Airtran, I personally would never fly AirTran. They are ValueJet (Everglades crash back in the 90's) under a new name after Chapter 11. Plus JetBlue has the TVs and unlimited snacks! :cool1: I think the fares are close but even it JetBlue was more, I will only fly them. As I tell my DW, "If JetBlue doens't fly there, it's probably not worth going too!" :teeth:

Desnik - I checked Jet Blue today and Air Tran last week - incl tax, JB was $24 cheaper :goodvibes
Stewart AFB is sooooo much better than Newark! (personally HATE Newark Airport)
No prior experience w/ AirTran but as far as Stewart:
Flew to San Jose in 2004, arriving about 5:30 AM, normal 2.5 hr before departure and the place was practically desserted. We were of course done with security/baggage check in about 20 mins and couldn't even get coffee before we left as the few counter service places were just opening up.
Wasn't hard finding luggage seeing as we were one of maybe a dozen families stalking the carousel.

From Poconos it is less time to travel to SWF than to Newark because no traffic. Unfortunately in past, airfares out of SWF were almost double cost from EWR. Extra bonus for me - my brother lives 10 mins away so I can park there for free. :woohoo:
Can't even describe how happy I am that decent fares are there now - BTW, did I mention I HATE NEWARK AIRPORT!!?
