Ugh! I hate my hair sometimes! It's very curly and yet super fine (the worst combo). And lately my hair has also become horribly dry (with disgusting, fuzzy ends). I do get regular "health trims" (about every 6 -8 weeks), but my hair still looks like a disaster area. It's one bad hair day after the other.

I've been scouring the internet in search of inexpensive, do-it-yourself dry/damaged hair fixes. I've found several including: changing my diet, taking a daily multi-vitamin, slathering my hair with mayo and covering with plastic (has anyone tried this?), adding a tablespoon of olive oil to my regular conditioner, shampooing every other day, limited use (or non-use) of blow-dryers and straightening irons, etc., etc. TONS of ideas popped up on Google.

When we went to WDW in mid-February, the humidity wasn't that bad (except for two days). I had straightened my hair each morning but it poofed by the time I reached the parks. I spent the remainder of each day with my hair scraped back in a rather severe-looking bun (and I look absolutely horrid in some of our pictures).

What do you curly gals/guys do with your hair when you're at the World? Does anyone have any great dry/curly hair tips or advice? I'm this close to cutting it all off.

I wish I had some good advice for you....but I don't! I have naturally "frizzy" hair - I blow it dry straight every day.

While down in Disney, I usually just throw it up in a bun while it's wet in the morning - I quickly realized that blowing it dry down in Disney was NOT worth it - as the minute I would step outside, it frizzes up out of control!! I think every pic of me down in Disney is with my hair pulled back!!!

May I ask how you straighten your hair. With the Florida humidity it often takes more than just a hair dryer to keep it straight. I am a Florida resident with curly/wavy frizzy hair. The lady I work for has extremely curly hair. We both use a high quality straightener that goes up to 450 degrees. Before my staightener it was hopeless. I would straighten my hair and it would "grow" throughout the day. It would always end up in a ponytail. Most people can't even tell that it is curly at all when it is straight!!! And if all else fails there is always a hat near by or a pair of mickey ears :goodvibes .

Thank you! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only who pulls their hair back every morning! I'm going to take your advice on the blow-drying - I agree that it's just not worth it. Thanks! :)

I will apply some sort of straightening balm, set my hair in velcro rollers (while hair is slightly damp) and then I let the hair air-dry for awhile. Then, while the ceramic iron is heating up (I'll admit, it's not the best iron), I will blow dry each rolled section with a large, round brush. After I blow dry each section, I will roll it back up with the velcro roller. Then I take the iron and will straighten each rolled section.

What type of straightener do you use? Thanks! :)

I put straightning cream in my hair, blow-dry it out straight, and then use a Chi straightner....like the high-end one's they use in salons. The staightner works really well, but still no match for FL humidity! :rotfl:

I have to look into the Chi (I've read/heard nothing but good things). I think what has stopped me from purchasing the Chi is the price, but I've wasted HUNDREDS on so-called straightening products that don't deliver. I think it's time to invest. Thanks! :goodvibes

I have very fine and very curly hair (although it isn't dry per say). And I sweat on my head-- a lot. Long ago I gave up on my hair at WDW. We have been going in Sept the past few years and no matter what I do the humidity creates a crazy curly mess (think Medusa like snakey hair). I gave up and started pulling it back with a headband (a Minnie ears headband actually).

I use my daughters detangling spray (by Paul Mitchell) or some smoothing lotion like Afterparty (by Bed Head) to combat the frizzies and some Aussie humidity hairspray to give my hair a little shape/hold.

So, I have not figured out how to keep my normal hairdo all day at WDW, but pulling it back works well enough.

I have this same problem but last year I found a mixture of product that worked!

take shower and wash hair at night

blow it dry before bed, run biosilk, silk theorpy through it

use clip, "chi" flat iron shine spray and "chi" flat iron to flat iron small sections at a time until straight all over

Follow with THRIX spay gel humidity lock out.

I know it sounds like a lengthy process, but it worked and it only took about 15 mins extra. I still sometimes pulled my hair up during the day because of the heat, but it still looked nice and smooth at night when I let it down.

Good LUck

I live here, the only advice I have-I wash my hair in the morning, Mousse hair, put it up (in a clip) wet and spray it with hairspray. It is the only way I have found to prevent frizz and maintain curls. Straight is not an option for me LOL

I have very curly hair and struggle with it at WDW....
It depends on which time of year we go. In the summer, forget it, I just pull it back in a pony or wear a ball cap. No matter what I do, it's hopeless!
If it is a more temperate time of year, I blow dry it, then use product and straighten it with the hair dryer, THEN straighten it with a ceramic iron (I have a really good one, a must for my hair.) I have to be honest, I shower but don't wash my hair for the second day, and straighten it again the next day and it is usually more manageable the second day.
I get frustrated by day 3 with all the work, so I wash and pony it!
It's funny, because I have a lot of friends with poker straight hair and say they wish they had my hair. :goodvibes The grass is always greener!
All I can say is I so understand your hair issues and  !
Have fun!!!!!

Thank you! I'm writing all the products (and steps) down!!!

Thank you, Cindee! I've never tried the mousse-clip-spray technique, but I'm willing to try it all! :)

LOL! Yep, the grass is definitely always greener! My DD has been BLESSED with shiny, silky, gloriously straight hair and has been begging me to set her hair in rollers every night so she can have curly hair! :lmao:

I want a Minnie headband!! :) Thanks for the products you mentioned - I'm writing it all down. I guess I don't feel so bad anymore about pulling my hair back. It's just when they were asking me question during the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Show ... I was on-screen and I was like, gross! My hair!

I usually don't care about my hair during the day. But if we go out to PI at night, I am soooooo jealous of the girls with their pretty, straight hair while they are partying it up!! Mine is up in a bun looking not-so-pretty...it sucks!!! :headache:

When I lived in IL, I straightened my hair every day. Here it is not an option. It’s just too humid. My stylist (a top stylist at fashion week) knows that my hair is so curly, that any humidity and my hair won’t stay straight. If I happen to have it cut on a low humidity day, he jumps up and down and straightens it. He loves my hair curly, but just likes being able to give me such a different look.

Anyhow… I’ve had to learn to go with it, with help from my stylist. I use a defrizzers (I found for my hair Citrus Shine works best) and gel (weighs hair down which helps keep control). I use a diffuser with my blow dryer on low heat. And I never, ever touch my hair. If it does start to get out of control, I splash water on it. On particularly unruly days, I pull it back.

When I go up north, I still straighten. I do have to admit, the less styling I do with my hair, the better shape it is in, so leaving it curly is probably better. I hate my hair, but I get lots of complements on it.

I have had a few different straighteners but my latest is a Solia. I usually put a smoothing/shine serum the one I am using now is from Victoria's Secret, in my hair before I blow dry it. Then I straighten in sections. I then use the serum again sometimes. When at Disney I shower and then blowdry before bed and straighten in the morning. That way I know it is really dry and there is no moisture hiding in there:) .

I use to feel the exact same way. There are alot of open air bars/restuarant/clubs where I live right on the beach. My hair use to look terrible all the time or at least I thought so and I would end up having to put it up.

naturally curly hair here. I keep my hair chin length to keep the length of my hair from dragging the curl out. I use something called Morrocan Oil. Which is a leave in conditioner. It's basically an oil and you use just a little tiny bit. The bottle costs $38 and my mom ships it to me from NJ, but it lasts for a year. When I'm in WDW or even Charlotte when it is humid I just stick a hat on. Saves alot of time and trouble.
