A few months ago I purchased mineral make up at Sally Beauty Supply for about $16. It came with 2 jars of make up and a brush. I finally see what all the fuss is about, I loved the results. And call me crazy but my skin seemed to improve after using it for a while.
The only complaint I have is that it's messy. After using it I have make up all over my bathroom counter. I have learned to put a paper towel underneath the jars to make clean up easier. I do tap the excess make up in the lid but I still end up with a mess. Are the more expensive brands messy as well?

Thanks,
Terri

I use Bare Escentuals and at first it was messy ;) but now that I've played around w/it for awhile. I tap the excess off, then tip w/bristles up and tap it against the lid so the makeup gets deeper into the brush and that helps A LOT!! I love the results:cloud9: I think all the brands would be the same as far as mess...it just takes time to get the hang of it.

I love my Bare Minerals makeup. If you ever decide you want to try it, they sell kits at the Sephora store that are pretty reasonable and does last a good amount of time.

Anyways, I keep one dedicated hand towel that I put down for my makeup. I also do not pull the tabs off all the way covering the holes. If you have already pulled the tabe off, you could put a small bit of clear tape over the covering and poke a couple holes through to just give a bit of makeup. This really helped me reduce on the mess.

Yes, they're just as messy. You should see the carpet underneath my vanity table. It's more from actual spills than just excess dust. I do what the pp said and just poke a few holes at the top rather than completely opening the top. Also, when I travel I put in a cotton ball to block the holes.

Thanks for the replies:cutie: I guess I will stick with the brand I'm using. Putting a cotton ball in the lid is a great idea. I will have to give that a try.

I use Bare Minerals and it's just as messy. I finally bought a small container about the size that loose powder would come in. I put my foundation into the larger contaner and now I really don't have much of a problem with the mess. The top of this container is also deeper than the original container, so that helps when I'm tapping off the excess powder too. I'm thinking about doing the same thing with the Mineral Veil.

I have baby wipes in my bathroom, for a quick counter cleaning. They also work to clean the brushes to use another color.

I also make sure not to take off all the covering, and if too much is out, I take that off, and dump it back in the bottom of the container. Helps a lot to reduce waste.

Well I am getting better with it. The first time I used it I had makeup in the sink, on the counter, my rug and don't even get me started about my shirt. Let's just say I had to change my clothes:rolleyes1

I use Bare Minerals, too and looooove it! My skin is really dry and usualy flakey. But after using this for foundation (and the Principal Secret for cleansing and moisterizing), my skin is soooo much improved! I get them both from QVC.

I've used BE since it debuted on QVC many years ago and I have never had a mess. I am so surprised to hear people think it is so messy. Tomorrow, I'll probably make a mess!

My DD bought some of L'Oreal's mineral makeup and I do think it is messier than BE.

Is there a huge difference between the Bare Minerals product and the Physicians Formula? Are the prices comparable... and the results? I can't find the Bare Minerals in the local shops but Physicians Formula is everywhere.

I've never noticed a mess either.:confused3

BTW, I was running out of Mineral Veil and since I was going to be in DC for a meeting, meaning I could go to Sephora :woohoo: , which we don't have in my country, I decided to wait and buy it here, see what else I could find. I have extremely oily skin, the kind that shines after an hour  no matter what. The salesclerk suggested that I try the Laura Mercier loose powder (similar to the MV) because it gives more oil control/coverage while still being sheer. She also suggested the oil-free primer (also by Laura Mercier).

I love both! I've been using them for a week and even though it's been around 100F here in DC all week, my face looks much neater. I went back to see the LM foundation, but the colors are more limited and there wasn't a good match for me. I'll keep using the Bare Minerals foundation.

I have been using BE for years. I really love it. And yes it can be messy. When I open a new container I don't open all of the holes. Also it helps to really get product into your brush.

I don't have a problem with mess either. I tap the brush right back into the container instead of into the lid & don't have a problem.

I just started using BE a few months ago & I will always buy mineral make-up from now on. Thanks for those DISers that recommended it. :cool1:
