For every ONE of us, how many others are there?

I cannot even begin to answer this question, but I am curious if anyone else can. We see these posts and threads asking which room to request at a particular resort. For each one of these requests asked by those of us on these boards, how many other people are out there that don't know what to ask or just don't care to ask? I feel like my number is probably skewed to the high side because I see these requests so much. If I had to guess, I would think that most people (or around 75-80%) checking in to a resort ask for a particular floor, area, etc. In that case I don't see how most of the requests can be met :confused3.

Just curious, I am wondering if I should even bother making a request at check-in or just not get my hopes up.

There are many factors that come into play that determine request success.

The resort, room size, category, popularity of the resort, season, what you requested, mood and work ethic of the room assigner and luck.

We make requests that are not too specific like "high floor". We average about a 50% success rate.

I have found that since online check-in started that more of my requests are met. I have had my requests met about 95% of the time, when using online check-in in place of waiting until at the resort.

I also think that it depends on the resort as there may be more requests than there would be at other places.

Take BLT...since they converted those original MK rooms to SV, I would venture to guess that there are alot of people who request even numbered room since that is what those rooms are but I also imagine that if its a in demand request, the chance would be more difficult.

My typical request, no matter where we stay is "not first floor" as I just don't like being on the ground. And, all but once, it's been granted...but then again, in most cases, its probably not a request that would be difficult.

Don't wait until check-in to make a request. Send and e-mail or call Member Services to have the request put on your reservation at least a week before arrival.

As stated, if you make the request general, you have a better chance of getting it. Good luck! :)

Rooms are assigned starting a week or more before any given date. As the check in date draws near, requests and rooms are shuffled even more.

Waiting to make a request at check in is after rooms are assigned, they may try to accommodate you and bump someone else or they may just give you what's available.

Using the canned requests when you check in online can be successful due to the fact that the requests are so generic.

Then by the same token, there are those of us on the boards who read daily, but don't make requests. So I guess it would be hard to gauge the OP's original question. Interesting though. In my 10 years of DVC and reading the boards daily, I made my first request ever for my Oct trip. Stayed at Kidani for the first time and requested Sunset Savannah based on the recommendations from here. It was granted. Other than that, I've been pretty happy with my room locations and such.

On the online check in what are the options for requests? I've never stayed in a dvc (hoping my 1st stay is this year). We usually stay pop century(I know big difference) and all you can request are things like which floor and maybe general location. I'd probably want to try and request a specific building or area if possible, so can that be done during online check in or should I call ahead of time?

I always put in a request and as yet I haven't had any granted!:lmao:

Last year I requested as high a floor as possible for our BLT theme park view room, and we were given the 5th floor (which I understand is the lowest for that view) and I asked if there was anything higher and they gave us the 7th floor - not much better, but if that was available, why wasn't I given that before? I can only assume that my requests weren't looked at at all!

So nobody has a guess as to what percentage of the DVC population actually reads these boards and knows what requests to make, and actually makes them?

For me, I think I will put in the request and hope for the best :)

That would be me.

Well, except for "Ground Floor" when we're staying at OKW with my aunt. Other than that I'm not picky about making requests.

I think they are still working that out, honestly. Seems to change every time we do it!

I have never made a specific request and have always been happy with the room given to me. I am not sure but we alway arrive around 11 am on checkin day, so we are first inline. Usually we never have to wait for a room to get either.

Add me to the read daily, no request made list. Well, normally. I just put in a room request for our upcoming VGC trip, but I'm good with whatever we get. We have had quite a few trips there, have never made a request, and have gotten a Paradise Pier view on a higher floor all but one time.

Also active Dis'er but hardly ever make a request. Several years back I did and while yes the request was granted we had to wait past official check-in time for the room to be ready. I'd rather just have a room to check into as we normally come in late morning. Most years we do not have to wait long or like in Nov. they found us an available villa right away even though it was still morning. I like that better. :) The walks etc.. really never bother us.

we are 3 for 3 on requests.

AKV-KV, studio Savannah view: Sunsest Savannah
VGF, studio standard: high floor, NOT ending in 21
BWV, studio boardwalk view: In "Crest O the Wave" Section

Hoping to keep the streak alive at BLT this summer
