for Europe-consider BCN-Dover cruise (off the beaten path)

I just wanted to chime in and say that I did this route on another cruiseline and really liked it. For those who have never been to Europe before (or for those who want to do something different), it's a great way to see different parts of Europe that you would be unlikely to see on a typical land trip (such as Portugal). Plus, you can fly into BCN a few days early and then explore London and England for even a week afterwards.

Thanks for posting this, OP! We're going back and forth between this or Alaska for summer 2018, waiting for feedback from extended family. I'm not sure if they will want to do Europe yet (younger kids than mine), so we're pricing out Alaska on DCL and other lines... but if they decide to put off cruising another year, I think we'd rather do this than Alaska, for precisely the reasons you state - it's different than what we'd see on a land trip to more popular destinations. Did your cruise go to Cherbourg too? If so, do you know how convenient it was to Mont St Michel or the beaches of Normandy? We've only traveled to Paris or the south, not the north, so that port's a plus for us too. My dad has always wanted to see the beaches of Normandy. I've done some searches, but the results my googling has produced are pretty dated, not sure if the situation is the same (with the ports and highways).

We booked this as the 2nd leg of a B2B! I'm planned to check RCCL prices for similar ports when they come out, but my girls really want to stay with DCL.
