For Earth watch, do you have to turn off your computers and tv's?

There's NCAA basketball on... you couldn't PAY me to turn off my tv.

I dipped some homemade torches in kerosene this afternoon just for the occasion. Does that sound like a good idea?

no idea what Earth watch is, but not turning off the TV with NCAA Tournament games going on....

I thought the whole idea was to go old school via candlelight. I would imagine TV and computers would not be encouraged. I'm not participating though.;)

I haven't heard of this..but here in NJ we already did this a couple of weeks ago, not by choice.;) I had my fill of living by candlelight during that big storm.

Turned off my lights but tv and obviously the computer is on, I guess I could use the battery but did not think of it until just now

Okay, I didn't play. I was asleep, so not benefiting from whatever electricity was being used at the time - does that count?

But to anyone who did participate: to what end? Did the entire world observe Earth Watch at 8:30 PM Eastern Standard time - so that the entire planet (concievably) went dark for the same hour? Or was it 8:30 PM in one's local time zone - sort of a worldwide rolling outage over a 24 hour period that's actually still occurring (since isn't it not yet 8:30 in, say, Hawaii?)?

I just wonder why they didn't coordinate with the "light up the night" movement, so one night with no lights, then the next with all the lights...

wounder if crime will go UP, then down.;)

:rotfl: or most bars! (although KY lost, so hubby should have turned it off. saven himslef a few tears!)

we did not "observe" this at the restaurant. we had more tables than usual for our prime rib special. darned if I'm turning down customers in this economy! and in the bar area, we had a 40th birthday party. don't think they wanted to sit in candlelight and sing "kumbaya".

Yeah, and we got free water in the basement also.

 ITA, we had our own Earth night for 2 nights last month, thats enough for me.
We didn't participate, we conserve our energy use everyday, I don't need an hour a year to remind myself :)

You know, it wasn't really publicized here! I totally forgot about it! Saw it mentioned once last week on the news but that's it. It was last night, right?

I didn't know about it at all. I should have turned my tv off, though. :sad1:
