A few weeks ago on the older DIS, there were postings concerning discounted airfares for children flying with adults. I can't remember the details / how this came about? Do the airlines offer this on a regular basis, and, is there a chance they will offer it again?
I'm interested in buying airfare in September, and, I'm going to wait alittle while to see if the airfares do go down. I was just hoping/wondering if you think the airlines will offer this again? Thanks for any imput...
:D  :D

There is really no way to know if that kind of deal will be offered again before your trip. Where are you flying from and to? There could be other deals that are just as good or even better.

We will be flying out of Chicago--either O'Hare (ORD) or Midway--would like a non-stop to Orlando.
I'm still waiting for southwest vouchers (from Hersheys) but don't know if I'll have these before a really good deal may become available--i.e. I know ATA (from Midway) can offer some good deals.
Last year in late August, DH's family was able to get an ATA internet rate of $159 Midway/Orlando for early November!
Please advise if you are aware of anything I should be looking for, TIA!

Delta has been offering very low fares between Chicago and Orlando on their non-stops that they will begin this summer. I suspect United and American are matching them, but I'm not sure. Have you checked prices on the airline websites?

you can also check out of midway for a lower fare as well. and I know that a few people even drive to milwaukee to use their airport for a difference in fares. the companion fares come maybe once a year if that. and if you do the math its not all that great a deal. in the end you could actually pay more. for instance a friend of mine is going in jul and the child fares they were offering it would have cost them 60 more to go that route than just buying the regualr sale fares. you may get a break on the child fare but not on the adult. plus if the fare goes down from those you can't get the voucher for the difference. in addition to checking the indiviadual websight that you want to use have you ever heard of side step? while you are checking one web sight for fare it checks all the websights at the same time and tells you who has what fare. some times it has helped and other times it hasn't shown anything better than what I have found on my own.

Thanks for the replies TravelSheryl and Beverly Lynn!

TravelSheryl, yes, I saw the posting about Delta and have been checking--rates aren't lower yet for Sept. This will be great if it encourages other airlines to lower fares!
Also, I've been checking Southwest, ATA, United--all fares are around/over $200 pp. I'll continue to check these and Delta to see if I can get a better fare for Sept. If I do manage to get a good airfare, I'll post about it.
Beverly Lynn, no, I haven't heard of "sidestep". How do you use this when checking one website?

Thanks very much both of you for the helpful info!!

We paid $339 for 2 round trip tickets on ATA for a trip this July. I saved $90 by taking the early flight home.

go to www.sidestep.com and download it. then whenever you start looking for fares on another sight it pops up on the side of your screen and searches and then lists the other fares it has found.

We're flying out of O'Hare (ORD) this October with my parents. My dad will only fly out of O'Hare non-stop. We booked with United for $249.99 a ticket. I've been checking these rates for sometime and this is quite a bit lower than what they have been on United.

Good Luck!!!
