Hello Ladies,

I went trough so many discussion with my wedding coordinator and her assisstant and research on this board to make sense of the room block, that I decided to give all of you who this is stressing ( probably not as much as it did to me but I did see some pretty desperate post lol) a step by step way of seeing clearly in the fog of room block.

First Step.

They will ask you to choose 3 resorts. Unless you have guest that you KNOW FOR SURE will all want to stay at a deluxe resort, book one of each category. (ea 1 value, 1 moderate, 1 deluxe) It will make the guest who wanna spend less still feel like a part of it all, while giving those pickier one other options.

Second Step.

How many rooms???? Before you start having headaches just count your guest....tell yourself they will probably stay 2-3 nights on average...then give the count to your coordinator and she will add 20%. Again do not pull the hair of your head saying you'll end up paying at the end. The coordinator adds 20% because they know us, brides to be, rather be on the safe side and usually book less rooms then we should.

Third step

But how do I know where they'll want to stay?????? :confused3 Talk you friends and familly. ( after all why would they be your friends if you can't share your toughts with them) You might dread it at first, but beleive me, they will thank you for the guidance, and they will call you anyway when they receive the save the date about which resort they should choose lol
I did that and everyone was glad that I pointed to them the positive and negative points of each one. My fiance's grand mother wanted to stay at the moderate resort we chose, which was the Port Orleans French Quarter, but when I told her she would probably have to walk more since it is a more spread out resort, she went with the value, which is All Star Movies.

Fourth Step

Back to your coordinator with the numbers. They will be aproximate, but just be aware that if all your blocked room are taken at a resort, the guest can still get the discount price if there's availability AND the total night required is of any room booked. With that I mean if you have 10 nights at value 10 in mod and 10 in deluxe...you can have guest choosing 30 nights at value and it won't cost you anything.
Also one trick I got from a friend is to book the rooms of our bridal party last. That way if there's still rooms left you have to book to achieve you minimum, you will fill them with those. And if there's no more room.....you can pick another resort and tell them you wanted to have them together somewhere special ;)

Now you can breathe and relax
:cool1:

I hope this helps

Have a great day and to those of us who are getting married soon remember.....stress gives wrinkles ;)

Just wanted to point out that POFQ is a very small resort while the ASMO is much larger and spread out. French Quarter has the least walking of any resort in my opinion!

I have a question that is somewhat OT. DBF & I aren't getting married yet, still in college. I've read on here that someone was having trouble filling their room block and another DISer helped to fill part of it up by staying at one of the resorts. Does this happen often? DBF and I would love to do this. Please pardon if this is morally wrong, just going by what I've read.

No it isnt morally wrong, it will actually help someone if they are trying to fill a room block. You might start a thread on here posting the dates you are going... and ask if anyone needs to fill a room block for those dates at that resort, and then give them your reservation number. Ofcourse you still have to pay for your room and everything, but giving them your reservation number can save them a lot of money.

I was wondering. Can you still block rooms if you are having your wedding off site Disney. How does it work and who do I need to contact. How long in advance do you block/book your rooms for your trip?

I don't know if they will block room but you can try calling disney's group reservation. I'm sure they'll help you if they can.

Hi Ladies,

Was going to ask my SM, but seeing as you guys appear so much more knowledgeable on this topic, I have another question:

Can any other discounts (CAA/AAA) or upgrades be applied to the wedding discount rates for the resorts on the room block?

I asked the sm about the added discounts and he said the discounted rates they have are set at the beginning of the year and cannot be changed. If you are able to find a better rate, then go ahead and book it. BUT, you need to save that reservation number and give it to your SM or EM and they can count it toward your room night goal. That is, as long as it is at a Disney owned resort.
