Where do you get the pretty glass containers? I have looked and found some I like, but they are $30 or more each :scared1:
I would love to get some of these for my daughter's upcoming party, but I definitely want to spend less than that per jar! Where do you get them?
I have been looking at yard sales and thrift stores with NO luck....

I would keep watching the thrift shops and yardsales, they are hit-or-miss, but in the meantime, don't forget to ask friends and relatives what they have that you could borrow, maybe look into party rental places, and hit craft stores like Michael's and Hobby Lobby armed with the 40% coupons, they always seem to have beautiful glassware in all sorts of colors and shapes.

Oh, do you have Freecycle where you are? If so, you could sign up and put out and "ISO" (in search of) ad.

Good luck!

Sadly, we don't live near family. We don't really know too many people here either, we moved here in August. I will try Michaels, no Hobby Lobby nearby :sad2: We are in probably the smallest town in America!! :lmao:

We have to drive an hour over a mountain just to get to a walmart, hospital or anything like that! :headache:

Thanks for the tips =)

That's good, you've got time, then. It will be alright. :) Take a deep breath of that wonderful country air you moved out there to get! ;)

Do you have a Christmas Tree Shoppe by you they had some cool ones in there last flyer.

There is one three hours from here. Not sure if it would be worth the gas. Are there deals that great??!

Our Dollar Tree actually has a pretty good selection of cute glass vases and containers. Also check Old Time Pottery if you have one of those.

I was going to say Dollar Tree as well. At least for a few of your containers and use 'nicer' ones to offset the one's from Dollar Tree. I've gotten nice vases at Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Not sure if you have any of those stores near you.

I think I would try yard sales and thrift stores if I were in your situation, we are much closer to Dollar Tree and Michaels, so that would be my first stop.

For my dd's Sweet 16 Candy Buffet, I used crystal dishes/vases that I had. I also went to our Dollar Store and bought some clear glass storage bottles... I then went to a party store and bought some plastic thingamgiggies (I will call them tweezers) for the kids to use to get the candy out of the containers. All my stuff was glass or crystal. I even used shrimp cups, wide crystal glasses etc....everything I had....it all worked out.

Good luck!

And always remember, matching wrapping paper can turn a plain cardboard box/ empty paint can/ mixing bowls, etc into a container as well!

Trust me, the kids won't remember what type of container as much as they will the wonderful treats they leave with!

I have seen many different apothecary glass jars at TJMaxx, Ross, Home Goods, and Marshall's. They are still usually about $10-$15 each, though, depending on the size.

If you use just a few beautiful, elaborate jars such as the apothecary style ones, you can fill in the rest with more ordinary ones and it will look gorgeous.

Remember, you can use simple things like fish bowls, wine glasses, etc also.

The "beauty" of it all comes from layering candies and using a color scheme. And, be creative...fill a glass with plain white sugar and stick lollipops in it so they stand up. I'm sure you've already Googled "candy buffet", but if not, look at all of the images. What draws your eye is the color schemes and layering of candies. :)

Tongs work for some items but a lot of the candies need scoops. I got cheap silver scoops at wal-mart and tied satin ribbons on the handles...voila! I found most of my containers at Ross/Marshall's/TJ Maxx, But a giant champagne glass came from wal-mart. I tied all the differnt glass containers together by sticking red & zebra print ribbons around the edges of the containers with spray adhesive. I need to start buying candy for candy buffet #2 ...graduation party in June!

I made a candy buffet for my sister's sweet 16- I got most of the jars from the thrift store for $2-$3. I also got some plastic goblet type cups from WalMart for $1 each, to hold smaller candies, and some colored plastic bowls. I was worried they wouldn't look good together, but the buffet actually looked really great with the mix of dishes.

I am not actually having a candy buffet. I just want a couple of the nice glass jars for a few things on her table. I will put some rock candy sticks in one and something else in another, maybe a third???

I don't really have a great plan yet. She is turning one, so I am not doing a bunch of things that she can't have since she is the birthday girl!!

I have made a bunch of the tissue paper poms in different colors. I am still trying to figure out what to do!!!

I'll second the Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Homegoods and Dollar Tree and add a Christmas Tree Shop as well.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN! We are doing a candy buffet at my daughters 10th birthday party this Saturday and I had a HARD time finding the containers. I too wanted the apothecary jars, but they are so expensive even with a 40% off coupon. I went to Savers and Goodwill and was able to get a few jars/vases that will work. I needed 22 different jars, so it was tough. GOOD LUCK! Post pictures. :thumbsup2
