I was near High Point, NC today when my husband called and told me Fantasia was going to make an appearance and I should go if I wanted. So I said ok and got to the location early, stood in line for two hot hours, had to stand my ground against - believe it or not - a middle aged couple with their big camera and some little old ladies (I'm serious), but I was up front and got to be about 4 feet from Fantasia when she arrived.
Her Dad came out and talked to the crowd first. When her family speaks it seems like a gospel meeting
Her Mom and Grandma are the ministers of their church. "Joe" was talking about believing in miracles and having faith. Fantasia arrived in a verrrrrry long stretch SUV. First a lot of big men got out, then a woman carrying Fantasia's little girl, and then finally Fantasia. She looked great, was crying, very emotional at all the people waiting there to support her. I tried to get some pictures with a disposable camera I picked up but I'm not too tall and a couple of people were in front of me so I just held the camera up and snapped. Hope some come out.
Inside a producer from AI said that they were filming to do a 2 minute segment next week on the show. He also said NO VIDEO because if it gets out and AI doesn't have an exculsive they won't use the segment. Started out with "Tasia's" family singing, then she came out, still crying, called herself a crybaby. Said she was so touched by all the support. She said she missed home so much, that they "live in a bubble" when in LA and she wanted to see some "real people" and "eat some chicken y'all". She got the key to the city and tomorrow is proclaimed Fantasia Day in High Point. She sang a song with her family and then sang "Something to talk about".
Her grandma ended things up with some prayers. Fantasia asked if she could go out into the crowd and the AI producer told her no ? Seems to have a lot of security around her. Maybe AI can't afford to have anything happen to her?!
It was fun and also very touching - can't wait to see the show next week!
