The verdict is in...
I injured my right foot (or,I should say REinjured that foot) in New Orleans 2 weeks ago, I think. I don't remember turning it or anything, but 2 days after I got home i had some fierce pain in the arch. That has waxed and waned over the past 10 days until I finally took it to the doctor today (I know, I know. Nurses make the *worst* patients
)
Anyway, the orthopedist agreed to see me this afternoon. I told him I thought it was that same post-tibial tendon that I ruptured about 6-7 years ago. I've been icing it, I've even been on crutches a few times in the last week. The pain ranges from about a 2 to a screeching 8!
The verdict is in--I have definitely injured that tendon, probably from walking on the uneven pavement in N.O., aaaaaanndd (you knew there was an "and", right?) I have damaged the tarsal nerve. All that necessitates an MRI, a brace, new orthotics, physical therapy,oral steroids, and a big honkin' shot of cortisone right INTO the tendon (yes, it hurt and yes, I cried!) He wants to reevaluate in a month.
And did I mention that I have 3--count them, 3!!--vacations coming up? I leave for a week at Favorite Brother's house next wednesday with Christian and all our baggage in tow. Then we have 8 days in Florida, mostly at the Destin. And finally, Christian and I will be going up to North Carolina for his first ever 5 night Joni&Friends camp (for kids with disabilities.)
I know the trips will be a lot of fun, but this injury comes at a bad time. It hurts to even walk around in the pool! Let alone walk around for exercise--oh, yeah, that's the other thing. Exercise has going out the window until PT evaluates the foot.
So here I sit with ice on my sore foot (if your doctor ever tells you he's going to shoot up your tendon and you'll only feel a pinch, tell him he goes first!)
