We will be attending the F&W Festival for the first time in late October and read that most countries have food offerings for a nominal cost (e.g $2-5). Can we use our room keys and charge back to the rooms or do we need to carry cash?

you can put money on their cash card and use that or ro0m key...its quicker than cash

Almost all of the Food and Wine kiosks accept the room key as well as credit cards. Both are easier to use than cash and much quicker.

How are the lines at the kiosks typically? And I assume you get a small sized sample of food?

The lines at the F & W kiosks seem to get longer as the day goes on. Usually the lines are the longest around dinner time.

And certain countries, like Mexico & Canada, almost always have the longest lines.

The kiosks accept any form of payment accepted everywhere around WDW. But still, carry some cash with you. The card terminals at the food and wine kiosks sometimes crash, and it sometimes takes a while before the system is back up and running. I never rely on a card without having some cash on hand just in case.

I've experienced the problem on more than one occasion, so I try to give people a heads up to keep some cash on hand. Most of the time, the card terminals work just fine.
