While planning for the trip DH and I just took, I was constantly looking for food pics and reviews, so I thought I would pay it forward with a review of my own.
The Cast:
Me, DW - loves to cook and eat great food, but not picky or a food snob.
DH - will eat just about anything
We went on this cruise to celebrate our 20th anniversary and left the kids at home. We were looking forward to quiet time, sunshine and great food. We got our wish with only one out of three.
The weather did not cooperate as we had mostly cloudy, chilly weather the entire trip. Even on Castaway Cay, it was too cold for us to swim or enjoy the bits of sun.
The food was plentiful, but not great. A few things were fantastic, but most of it was middle-of-the-road, and some of it was downright bad. I'll go meal by meal as best I can remember. We tried to take pics of everything, but forgot a few things.
DAY 1 EMBARKATION BUFFET
We chose to eat at Parrot Cay as it was windy and cold. We were promptly seated by a friendly CM who noted us talking with the family behind us in the very short line. We were given the choice to eat alone or with them. We chose to eat with the other family who were very nice with two very well-behaved little girls. I ordered a Bahama Mama which was the drink of the day. Only noticed when we got our receipt at the end of the cruise that I was charged $7.50, I thought the drink of the day was supposed to be 1/2 price, but never questioned the charge while on the ship. The drink was very strong, but the perfect tropical, fruity beginning for our cruise.
Here is DH's first plate which includes cole slaw, tomato salad, rice pilaf, broccoli, roasted potatoes, shrimp, roast beef and sweet and sour pork. I had the same with the addition of fried tilapia and a pasta dish with artichokes and mushrooms. The shrimp was a disappointment as it was not fresh. The pork and tilapia were excellent. I also enjoyed the beef, but DH got a piece that was very fatty. We also tried fresh baked flatbread and macaroni and cheese which was very good. I was excited to try the strawberry mint soup as I have fond memories of a similar soup from 1900 Park Faire from a number of years ago, but found it to be too sweet.
Time to get the kids to bed, so I'll continue tomorrow night when DH is home to link the pics. Sorry, I'm not very computer savvy and can't figure out how to link the pics.
