I accidentially left the sandwich I made for DD9 out last night and, not knowing any better, she packed it in her lunch- with an ice pack- and ate it for lunch. Now I am anxiously waiting to see if she gets sick. It was just bread and 2 pieces of American cheese. It's been about 7-71/2 hrs since she ate it. She did eat a regular dinner. How long should I remain nervous? I'm already beating myself up for being a bad mom.

If the cheese was really off she would have been sick by now.:thumbsup2

I was worrying more before I knew it was just cheese. I mean, you know how long pizza is good out on the counter. College kids eat that the next day! I don't think cheese spoils as fast as meat.

I agree- had there been meat involved, I might be a little more concerned, but American cheese probably won't do much harm at all.

I would say you should be nervous for 24 hours. It would take an MD degree to understand why so I won't include any semblence of that explanation here. Instead I would say it is luck whether DD comes down with food poisining.

She is eating lunch now and we are close to the 24 hr mark. So far, so good. Thanks.

She will be totally fine. This is a non-issue. Don't beat yourself up! :goodvibes

She should be fine. Cheese is pretty rugged, right? Here's my bad mom story(and it's also related to cheese!): I packed my DD7 lunch one day - crackers and Colby Jack cheese - and another teacher luckily pointed out to her that the corners of her cheese squares were black...MOLD!!! Didn't I feel like an awesome mom that day????!!!!!:thumbsup2
