Food, Fun, and Frivolity: 8 Funtabulous days w/pics! UPDATE 1/20 HELP!!!!

Lots of pictures, I am just getting caught up :goodvibes Great update!! I love the photopass picture of you guys at night time, I have never seen photopass picture taken there before, very cool!! I would really love to see Disneyland's versions of rides one day...I can wish right?!?

That is too funny that he moved Mike's arm in the Monsters Inc picture!! :rotfl: poor guy!

How did you make those cupcakes? I LOVE the alien from toy story so much!!

It's when you go out to places in nature and look for birds. My parents are way into it up in the SF Bay Area. They are part of the birding society. You keep track of all the birds that you see and report back on them via the internet. My mom keeps track of how many different birds she sees in her yard each day and then goes at night and enters it online.

Every time they go somewhere new they go out and try to see different birds that they had never seen. When we took them to AK, they took FOREVER in the Aviaries on the walking trails. In one of them, the CM recognized them a knowing more than the average guest and talked with them for almost an hour. Luckily we had split up with them that day and I was riding EE! :thumbsup2

Ok gotcha!!! :thumbsup2 I was thinking that term meant one of two things: either golfing or bird watching! :lmao: That's such a cute hobby! I'm sure the CM they were talking to, had fun being able to talk about their love of the avian variety as well!!! :)

So tonight i'll be updating again, and i'm hoping that we'll 'run' into each other some time during this trip! But I don't think we've been in the same place at the same time yet, have we??

Great updates!

Glad to hear you had such a nice meal at Flying Fish...I've been there twice and was underwhelmed both times, but I think I may have just ordered the wrong thing -- I'll have to try it again someday; you can't beat the atmosphere!

Hi norybell!! Oh no!! How unfortunate! I REALLY enjoyed my meal there and the company...i soooooo hope you'll give it a third shot...yeah that's kind of asking a lot, to go a third time, knowing that the first two times were not great, but maybe third times a charm?! :confused3 Get the surf and surf perhaps!!! OH or just skip the meal altogether and get dessert!!! mmmmmmm.... :lmao:

Awesome updates! And I love your pics! My favorites of course are the ones you took of the Boardwalk! LOL, not that you and your DH are not absolutely adorable! ;)

You make me wanna go back today! I still have to wait until August just to make our DVC resort reservation! But we are nearing the 8-month mark for our cruise, so I am very excited about that...haven't been on one since summer 2006!

I wish I had the guts to go on Rock 'n' Roller Coaster...Aerosmith is my all-time favorite band! I have seen them 6 times in concert. The first time was in 1994 on their "Get a Grip" tour, and the most recent was in June 2009. Love them, and what a show they always put on!! But I'm so darn scared of roller coasters...I get anxiety just taking my son on Big Thunder at MK! :rotfl2: I'm a big baby when it comes to rides...I'm more of an "it's a small world" kind of gal! :lmao:

And yes, I definitely recommend Biergarten in Germany...highly!! Their beer sampler is wonderful, and the food is oh so delicious!! Fantastic entertainment too...my favorite WDW restaurant so far...but keep in mind we haven't been to any signatures yet (unless you count CRT as a signature because it is 2 credits on the dining plan).

Yay! Hello Bonnie!! :) Glad to see you were able to take a break and check in on the DIS!! Whoo hoo @ your approaching cruise!!! You know, me, DH, my bro, and sis in law, were just talking about taking a cruise...doing the Disney Alaskan 7 night cruise! We've always wanted to go to Alaska and it's Disney related, so best of both worlds!! Like you know, i've never been on a cruise, so I might as well make it one of the best out there! (I'm getting ahead of myself, but i'm assuming Disney has one of the best cruises out there right?! :lmao:) So we'll see! There's so much I want to do all the time, but not enough funds! I want to go back to WDW next year, but I also want to take a cruise...sigh...i hate decisions like these...especially since we want kids soon...

Girl, I think you're just gonna have to suck it up for Aerosmith! :rotfl: You'll be concentrating more on the songs blasting in your ears, rather than what's going on around you! Seriously though, the first time I went on, I had no idea what to expect (since I dodged YouTube so I could get more anxious/excited), and once the music started playing, I was singing along and outloud that I wasn't able to concentrate on what was going on with the ride! :rotfl2: So we rode it again, and I watched AND sang at the same time! And we got different music the second time around so it was awesome!

That's right!! I forgot you haven't been to any SR's yet!! Waiting till you kids are a little older right?! What age do you want your youngest to be to experience a SR? I hope soon!!! :goodvibes

your trip report is great!!!!

Hi!!! Thanks for the kind words! Hope you stick around till the end!! :goodvibes

Hiiiiya Shannon!!!! :wave2: How've you been?!?

I know!! I've never seen PP's taken there either and I was so stoked! Omgosh, just take a flight out here and i'll go with you!! I'm always looking for an excuse to go to Disneyland, so hope you don't mind if I use you!!! :rotfl: I'll just pick you up from the airport and we'll drive to the Land!! Sound good?! :thumbsup2

Haha! After we were done taking pics with Mike, he's all, "I had to move his arm so he could put it around me. I felt not a part of the picture!" :rotfl:

The Green Alien cupcakes were super easy to make!! I got the recipe from family.go.com under the Disney section. You take a plain cupcake (I did the confetti cupcake mix with vanilla frosting) and added lime green food coloring to the frosting. You buy plain Mentos for the eyes, sour green apple straws cut into 2 inch straws (I believe it's 2 inches, might be 1 1/2), and sour green apple belts for the ears (which you cut into tear drop shapes), and a black tube of icing found in the baking section to dot the Mentos (eyes) and to make the little mouth. It was so fun to make! There's other ideas too! Let me find the website real quick and I'll get back to you! :goodvibes

I'm going to jump in on this topic even though I haven't been on as many cruises as Bonnie, I think I've been on about five, including Disney. My favorite had to be the Celebrity Cruise to Alaska. You want to do your homework on the Cruise Line you're going to take because there are definitely differences in the various lines. Bonnie and I were both saying that we like the ships that have formal nights, there is such a buzz on board when the men are in their tuxes and the ladies are all gussied up.

Norwegian has 'Freestyle' cruising which I think = casual all the time. I kind of like the structure of dining with a group of people each night, you get to meet new folks and learn about other activities and places. Disney does this to some extent, you move from restaurant to restaurant but keep the same table mates. Unfortunately the ones we had on our Disney cruise were either totally shy or homophobic. What I didn't like so much about Disney is that everyone is in a different "mode" each night. There is a casual restaurant, a "fancy" restaurant, the one where it starts out black and white and turns to color during your meal, and Palo (for adults only). So while you might be all dressed up going to Palo, you'll pass people in the hall still in shorts and a tank top. Other than that, the Disney cruises are fantastic! They have three separate pool areas, one for kids, one for families and one for adults. The spa was WONDERFUL! The excursions were great and going to Castaway Cay was so much fun!

That's not to say that the Celebrity Cruise wasn't great. The meals were outstanding, and the shore excursions were over the top! We flew in a helicopter to stand on a glacier, a bi-plane that landed on the water, we rode some sort of high speed boat through glacial run off. Totally adrenaline pumping type excursions.

The only cruise I didn't enjoy so much was the 3 day Ensenada Cruise on Carnival, the people were mostly sloppy drunk and it wasn't really relaxing wondering if the guys in the hallway were going to fall over drunk on you or worse yet barf all over! :lmao:

If you avoid that one, I think you guys would enjoy a cruise!

Luvin your TR (especially the wee links to the dining reports :cloud9:) :thumbsup2 . We've been to breakfast at Cape May a couple of times now and love it to bits

See, I don't mind if we dress up or not, if DH had a preference he would never choose to wear a tuxedo (he doesn't have one and he thinks he looks like a little kid in them since he's short :lmao:). I wouldn't mind getting a formal dress though and getting all purtied up! Aaaaah and i've heard about that restaurant that starts out in black and white and goes to color...even the uniforms on the wait staff I hear change too right?!?

See my brother and sis in law just went in June for their honeymoon and were absolutely floored by how amazing it all was! So much so, that they want to plan another Disney cruise, but over here on the West coast (she doesn't like to fly unless she absolutely has to) and I told them that me and dan have always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise! :cloud9: I'd hope they would have some good excursions with the Disney cruise right? Have you ever done the Disney Alaskan??

I do want to do to the Mexican cruise on Carnival for a weekend for: A girls quick weekend getaway, it's cheap, and it's close! I'm sure you saw LOTS of young people on that cruise too right?! It's so cheap!

Speaking of drunk, barfing people, while we were on our honeymoon in Jamaica, these older folks (maybe 45ish so not old, just older) were so stinkin wasted. There were about 4 couples I'll say, and one of them was so dunzo, he started throwing up on the bar countertop and then moved onto the lap of one of the women (not his wife) Needless to say, I was mortified...aren't I, the 21 year old, supposed to be out of control like that?!?! :lmao: :rotfl: Jk ;)

Luvin your TR (especially the wee links to the dining reports :cloud9:) :thumbsup2 . We've been to breakfast at Cape May a couple of times now and love it to bits

Aww thank you!! You made me smile when you said 'wee'! I love that!! :goodvibes

They actually have reversible vests, one side is line drawings the other side is in full color. It was really cool, you'd hear a "zing" and on of the paintings on the wall would have color on one of the pieces of clothing or a tail or the character's face, at first it was really light, you wouldn't really notice until they started to have a few colors filled in, then they would change and get more vivid, it was pretty cool!

Have you ever done the Disney Alaskan??

I haven't done the Disney Alaskan, we've been in taking care of old parents mode, plus my DP has been really home bound due to needing all the joint replacements. I want to take that Mexican Cruise too...I read an article a few years ago that they upgraded all their menus and sent their chef's to cooking school in France, so I'm hoping the food is better now.

while we were on our honeymoon in Jamaica, these older folks (maybe 45ish so not old, just older)

I'm 45! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Great report - loving it. Love the tshirts as well; especially the OSWALD one!

:thumbsup2

If I could afford the plane ticket I would be there today!! :rotfl: I could always use a tour guide lol

Thank you SOOO much for sharing that with me about the cupcakes, I am going to try and make them sometime soon, they are so cute and sound pretty easy to try and make!!

Hi there again!! I have never been on a Disney cruise, but I have only heard great things about it! I am sure it would be a wonderful experience, from the entertainment to the food! I have been on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity (before it was owned by Royal Caribbean...it was terrible back then but it is supposed to be excellent now...but more for adults than families with kids), Carnival, and Norwegian. I would recommend Royal Caribbean or Carnival for the best food, service, entertainment, and drinks! ;) Norwegian is OK...the food was good but not as good as the others. What lacked most in my opinion, was the service. I didn't get too many friendly smiles as I have gotten on Royal Caribbean or Carnival. Entertainment was excellent. I love having the same waiter every night in the dining room though. Because we were a group of 20, we booked a table every night at 5:30 when the dining room opened (early dinner time for the kids), and had the same waiter every night. He was good...the best service of the whole trip! They allow you to do that for a very early time, like we did, or a very late time, maybe around 9:30pm or so. But not for peak dinner hours like 7 or 8pm.

As far as the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, I don't think I will ever be able to bring myself to go on that one. I would be thinking about the ride the whole time, and have incredible anxiety. I wish I could suck it up and go on it for Aerosmith, but the thought of going upside down, and just the idea of a big roller coaster like that scares me and gives me chills. I freak out on Big Thunder... :rotfl:

We plan to try at least one signature restaurant with the boys on our next trip in July 2012. My little guy will be 5 by then and I am sure it will be fine. My big one would have been fine at one this past trip, and my little one probably would have also, but we wanted to try more of the regular places first. We will definitely go to Yachtsman Steakhouse with the boys next time, since both of them love steak! We went to Le Cellier this past July, so we will go to Yachtsman instead in 2012. It is also very convenient, being right across the lake from BWV! DH and I also talk about putting the boys into the kids' camp at the Beach Club Resort and going out to dinner alone one night, at a signature restaurant. Maybe Flying Fish, or maybe one of the signatures at the Grand Floridian. Cali Grille is also very appealing. So many to choose from! We celebrate our 9th anniversary this Thursday!!! So when we go back to WDW, it will be 8 months after our 10th anniversary, and we will go out to celebrate, albeit a late celebration! I would love to try V&A's, but have to see if it fits into the budget.

So you guys are coming to DL this weekend? I hope you can park your DH at ESPN Zone and come hear our band play at DCA 10:30AM on Sunday...please say "Hi" if you can come by, I will be the only one in the saxophone section in a dress! Probably running around trying to coordinate things (such is the fate of Band Manager!), but I'd love to say "Hi". We're going to Cafe Orleans to have lunch later that day and relax, plus we'll have had a wonderful dinner the night before, but hopefully we can at least say "hi" for a minute or two!

Sooo Hi everyone i'm back!! And it was NOT a good trip.... :sad2: Well i should just say the last half wasn't good..

We arrive at the Grand Californian on Friday evening around 8ish and check-in. The CM checking us in was super nice and said she was going to upgrade us to a park view! GREAT I thought! So we get up to the room....and there's only 2 beds, no couch....we have 5 people...uggggh...so we call guest services and say that we've been upgraded for free but that we have 5 people on the reservation and that the CM knew there was 5 people checking in. She said there were no more rooms available with 2 beds and a sofa for the rest of the weekend..... UGGGGH ....so she says she'll send up a sleeping bag with extra pillows and blankets and mentions it's a little lifted..so i'm thinking a cot?? Okay, can't be too bad....no...it's a pad...kinda like a thick pilates pad :rotfl: oh man...so we went down to guest services instead and talked to Yvonne who was super cool and totally understood our predicament (the sleeping bag was for my mom, who's 60 and can't sleep on the floor) Now I know what you're thinking...why not give up our spots in the bed for her!? She's VERY stubborn and doesn't want to have to split the two married couples apart and have to sleep with one of them. Anyways, back to the story, Yvonne asks if we can just stick it out for the night, since she found a room with 2 beds and a sofa for the next 2 nights of our stay. And we say that's totally fine and thanked her for her compassion and helpfulness! Not only that, she called me back on my cell phone and left a message saying that her manager wanted to compensate us for our trouble with either $100 off the first night or a breakfast for the 5 of us the next morning! They were so accommodating! It was great to feel cared for!

BTW I have to show you folks the "Park View Room"...to be honest, I would be TICKED to pay extra for this room, expecting to get a Park View room..i'll post it later...

Anyways, that night was fine and the next day was great!!! We decided to end the night early since we wanted to do extra morning hours and I wanted to go catch a little of Allison's (franandaj) band. We go to Naples for dinner around 6ish and me and DH order a Prosicutto pizza which was fabulous!....fastforward to the next morning...

Sunday morning I wake up for extra morning hours with DH and get into the park around 7:10 and we get tons done! Peter Pan, Matterhorn, Space Mountain, Finding Nemo, and last Haunted Mansion. I head back to the hotel to pick up my mom to do the Toy Story Mania run through DCA...but while getting ready for the park to open at 10, I realize, something's not feeling right. I ran to the bathroom and had the runs really bad..(sorry it's gross) I don't say anything because I don't want to ruin her time or come to the realization that something is going on with me..so I try to ignore it...after the ride, I run to the bathroom again...I felt like I was going to throw up after leaving the bathroom so tell my bro, sis in law, and mom, that i'm going up to the room to lay down because I have a headache..sure enough, I get up to the room and start throwing up and ended up staying up there...a few hours later DH comes back from ESPN zone and says you know, i'm not feeling to hot, and I didn't have that much to drink so I know it's not the beer...and yes...he started getting diarrhea and throwing up...we stayed in the room all afternoon and all evening taking turns throwing up in the bathroom...it got even worse when the rest of our party came up...they needed to take showers and go to the bathroom as well...and unfortunately, poor DH could not hold it in while one of them was in the shower and ended up throwing up in a bag in the trash can  It was HORRIBLE!!!!!

We figured it HAD to be the pizza because that was all me and DH had that was the same the day before, and the rest of our group didn't even touch our pizza, and they didn't get sick...so my mom, the next day, decides to go over and talk to the manager at Naples just to see if anyone else had gotten sick from the Proscuitto pizza because her daughter and son in law were very sick...the manager says, "Wow, no one ever orders this pizza!" :scared1: Okkkkaaayyy, and now I know why!!

So lesson....DON'T ORDER THE PROSCUITTO PIZZA FROM NAPLES PLLLEEEAASEE! I will probably save your life right now! :lmao:

So Allison, I'm sooooo sorry I wasn't able to make it!! I was really looking forward to my first "Dis Meet' too!!! :sad2: But I have to go back to make up for this trip, so hopefully we can meet on that trip! :flower3:

Wow! no problem! I'm sorry you had such a bad time. It was raining cats & dogs when we woke up, we didn't even know if we would play, but it worked out and we acutally rocked! Well as much as concert band could. We got our free passes and people had fun in the park. Since we have APs, we didnt' need the ones they gave us, so we gave a few to others so they could have park hoppers. It was a fun day and we enjoyed it. We'll do it again next year so maybe you can join us then!

Alison

Lesha - just read through your whole report and am loving it. I would like to say that I love the way you are putting the Food portion in. It really makes it easy reading and I love to read about trips and the food so doing it all at the same time like this is just wonderful.

:flower3:

I'm so sorry you and your DH were so sick. Sounds awful. Anything with the stomach gives me anxiety, especially if I am away from home. Sorry you had to deal with that.

I hope you are doing well now, and hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving. We went to Delaware (just got bacn about half an hour ago) to my DBIL's family. We had a wonderful time. DS3 is not feeling well though. He has had this cough for a couple of days and now he has a low-grade fever, his eyes look glassy too. I'm taking him to the doctor today, we have a 2pm appointment. The hacking cough gets me nervous because I have asthma and I know that means that there is a good chance at least one of my boys could develop it as well. But hopefully it's just either viral or a sinus infection and the cough is from the post nasal drip. He has had that before. Poor kid can't get a break...he had a mild stomach virus in early October, 2 weeks ago he had a pretty bad stomach virus and he was throwing up in the middle of the night, and now this. I myself had a sinus infection last week, but I pulled through it without taking any sick days.

OK, enough about being sick...I'm still looking forward to reading more of your report! :goodvibes

i'm alittle late on your TR... but i read your dining report and enjoyed all of it, i have used it to help me decide on ADRs!...

so far it sounds like yolu and dh had a great time! cant read to more!!

Wow!

Alison

Oh man, it was such a horrible trip! Probably one of the worst trips in history of trips! In fact, we were still so sick when we returned, we didn't participate in Thanksgiving! We just couldn't eat! So we had to celebrate Thanksgiving this past Saturday when we finally felt up to eating! It really knocked us out!

Well, the good news is that we still have two 2-day PH's leftover so we need to use these before May, so hopefully for my Bday in March??

Lesha - just read through your whole report and am loving it. I would like to say that I love the way you are putting the Food portion in. It really makes it easy reading and I love to read about trips and the food so doing it all at the same time like this is just wonderful.

Hi! I'm so glad you like it!! I wanted it to be informative, easy, and helpful for all who read, so I just thought sticking the restaurants in to my report would give people the option of browsing through my dining reviews! :cool1:

Hi Bonnie! I was just telling Allison that we were still so sick when we returned, we couldn't celebrate Thanksgiving that Thursday with our families...we had our own Thanksgiving this past Saturday when we got our appetite back...that sickness really took us down hard and kept us down for a while...but finally feeling better...haven't worked out at ALL this week and feeling gross for it; will start back up next week when I KNOW i'll be okay to do so!

How's your son doing?!? That's the worst...seeing little kids sick! Another reason I don't want kids...being helpless and not in control is something I don't handle well! :lmao:

i'm alittle late on your TR... but i read your dining report and enjoyed all of it, i have used it to help me decide on ADRs!...

Hello!! :) You're not late at all! In fact i'm late!! I'm so behind on my TR I should technically be done with it!! :rotfl: I'm such a procrastinator! :rolleyes1

After our meet and greet with Mr. Wasowski, we went on the Studio Backlot Tour where I took this single picture! :lmao:

So if you read my dining review of the Yachtsman, you'll know what happens next...read the review then come back because there was something I left out....

Okay so one thing I failed to mention....remember I was documenting our miles walked each day...well I remember vividly what happened...

I needed to go pee sooooo bad so I ran to the restrooms by the Crew Cup Lounge and took off my pedometer and placed it on top of the toilet paper holder and left it there!!! :rotfl: I remembered this, of course, the next day!!! :rotfl2: And I love how in my notes it's scribbled very sloppily, "Lost pedometer =( "

Twas a day/night to remember indeed! :goodvibes

Love the pictures, my husband lost his pedometer at Beach club restroom after breakfast in Cape May. That reminds me to pack his new one right now. I'm in a middle of packing for our DISNEY trip tomorrow...:cool1::banana:

Love the update.
