I've been looking at the food available on board and I've been wondering if I'll be able to fit into my clothes at the conclusion of my cruise. So how much weight will I gain? ;) Will I need to give their magical gym a try?

Worry about going to the gym when you get home. While you are there eat and enjoy. DH wouldn't eat anything but the chicken breast and NO dessert till about the 4th night, now he is sorry he didn't try the Creme Broulet (SP?) It was delicious.

Eat and enjoy

I've been thinking the same thing. In fact, I think I'll eat tomato soup all this week to drop a few lbs. that I know I will gain back on the cruise!! I'm thankful that formal night is early in the week because I have a slim fitting long skirt that I'm sure will be quite tight by the end of the week. ;) The thing about desserts is that we usually never have them so I'm sure we will be trying them all since we are on Vacation!! I'm especially looking forward to the carmelized pecan cheesecake :Pinkbounc

As far as the gym, I am going to try hard to continue walking each day on the cruise. I usually walk about 2 miles in the morning and I'm sure I'll need that to work off the desserts :)

See ya in 9 days!!

I am also hoping to get some light exercise in every day. I know they have a walk every day (?one mile) and an aerobic program in the a.m. I do a jog-walk four times a week and will probably feel off-kilter if I don't get some exercise to offset the over-indulgence:p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

Try to imagine My predicament........My 2 granddaughters and I leave for our 7 day on July 27th. We return on Sat. Aug. 3rd. Then, on Mon. Aug. 5th, I fly to London and on to Venice, Italy to board the Golden Princess for a Grand Mediterranean cruise. I return home on Aug. 21st, then 2 days later, I will attend my high school reunion. In a muu muu, no doubt. :Pinkbounc

oh...well....perhaps you'd better get to know the gym....
in any case, have a grand time on both cruises....i'm sure you will (we live on the mediterannean....now that i've survived my first cruise, maybe i'll do a med cruise next.....only problem, my guess is the ship is full of euorpeans.....don't expect them to stand nicely in line the way americans do....)

grandmalinda - LOVED the line about the muu muu! Hilarious. :)

I am a long time addict of Tae Bo. I was actually involved in filming the tapes with Billy and the crew.

I always take a couple of tapes with me and work out in the room on the ship. I realistically expect to get 2 or 3 workouts for the whole week, but it makes the difference! Go Tae Bo!!!!!

'Beano'

BeanoC -- Tae Bo in your room? The one time I did Tae Bo here in my house, I almost put my foot thru the TV screen!

disneyholic family -- since you live on the Med and are thinking about a cruise from there, try out the Radisson line if you are going w/o kids. Very small ships, beautiful in every respect. My DH and I went on one in the Carib in '98 and would love to go back. They used to be prohibitively expensive, but now there are deals for them all over the place. You won't regret it!

You could try what I did.
I figured that I would gain a hundred pounds on board so I spent the last year losing a hundred in advance. It was a piece of cake

Beano - You were IN the Tae-Bo tape?? Which one?? I work out to those almost every single day??? How cool is that?!! Of course, I still have a LONG way to go and you probably look fabulous, but that's another story....LOL

I always take one or two of my most comfortable outfits that have ELASTIC in the waist! That way by late in the week I am not miserable!

I lost 5 pounds before the cruise, and gained 3 back on the cruise. I normally exercise quite a bit (Tae Kwon Do, which is the tkd in my screen name), and only got in one mile walk and one 30 minute treadmill as official exercise during the week long cruise. But, we did walk quite a bit in Grand Cayman.

The way I dealt with all the eating was 1) only eat it if I really wanted it (i.e. just because the pizza, hot dogs, etc are at the pool, not to mention the COOKIES, don't go get it if you're not hungry!) 2) didn't drink hardly any liquor (one drink on the free Capt's gala, one drink out of our stock for the week), 3) ate half of what was brought out at the meal, and 4) concentrated on the veggie dishes at the buffets.

The last suggestion was probably the best one! I wanted to try some of everything, and it was really good! But since I NEVER eat an appetizer, main course, and dessert at home, if I had cleaned my plate, I probably would have gained 10 pounds! Instead, I just ate half of everything. The only exception was the carmelized cheesecake!!!!! It was the BEST!

DH gained 12 pounds on our four night cruise last year. He couldn't walk past food without eating it if I wasn't with him!

This time, I won't let him go anywhere by himself!

(I actually lost five pounds, but it must have been because I swam and walked so much. I certainly ate enough!)

After my first Disney Cruise, I was back to my lowest weight a week after we got back. I didnt feel I ate much on that cruise though, because I was constantly doing for my kids(then 8 months and 3.5yo) Whether it was feeding the little one, or cutting up food and trying to keep the older one happy, I didnt have much time to sit and enjoy a meal, or anything.
Well, we just got back from our 2nd Disney Cruise Sunday...this time without the kids. I had much more time to sit by the pool and sip frozen drinks(those mudslide go down too smooth), and more time to explore the ship and find more places to eat, etc... Im still up a few pounds, but it should be off in the next month. I had to laugh though. I started off the trip with a flat stomach, wearing a bikini. By the end I was in a one piece, with a nice gut going.
I think if you are disciplined enough once you get home, there is no reason not to eat and drink everything you want. It is vacation after all. :)

I read somewhere, that the average is somewhere around one pound per day. For a seven day cruise it's 5-10 pounds.

In addition to walking the deck, if you take the stairs instead of using the elevator. That's great exercise and removes the stress of waiting for the ever crowded slow elevators.

And if you want to see the bridge, do check out the exercise room, since 9/11, it's the only way you will get a chance to see it. Since they don't do bridge tours anymore.
