So right now I have the Free Dining vacation booked for Sept. But I was looking at other options based on cost. My son is active military and joining us for this trip. So he can get us all the Salute Tickets for about $250 for 5 days. The room at ASM is about $724. Just wondering how much to budget for food? We will have breakfast stuff in the room, but will likely eat a Quick Service meal and a Table service everyday. Is $50 per day per person sufficient?

First, thank you to your son for his service.

Second, how many are kids? Do any of the adults drink alcohol? Will you snack on any mickey bars or popcorn? I would budget higher, but we enjoy a drink with dinner, at least one snack per day, and always tip generously on TS.

It is really going to depend on where you eat, although it sounds a little low to me, as some restaurants are overall cheaper than others. I would look at the menus of where you are going to be eating and just try and guess as to what you think those in your group are likely to choose and go from there. Don't forget snacks, whether people prefer water with meals or if they need an actual paid beverage, and alcoholic beverages if you usually partake in those.

Also, since you will be there in September will you be going to the F&W festival? If so, make sure you budget accordingly as those samples add up.

I would budget higher as most TS alone are between $30 - $50 a meal so with QS meals you will likely be over your initial $50/day budget. Add in drinks and tip and you most likely absolutely exceed your $50/day budget.

Is the ASM quote also with the military discount?? If available, he could get up to 30% off the room too.

Budgeting for food definitely depends on how you like to eat. Over a 5-day period last Nov, our family of four did 3 TS meals (including one character breakfast) and QS for others, ate other breakfasts in the room, never said no to a snack we wanted, never shared a meal, and we averaged less than $40 per person, per day and that was with two teenage boys. We do drink only water with our meals.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am just going to stick with what we booked. I called Disney yesterday and they quoted me $750 to add my son to our reservation. He will only be there Thursday night(late)through Monday morning. We can get him the 4 day ticket for $226, add him to the room for $15 per night (although they said since he is military they may just waive the extra adult fee...but I am not counting on that)and we can just buy his food. HOWEVER if we do that, we can add him to our FP when I book those 60 days out. It is cheaper to just pay for his separately...but it is much more simple to pay the $750 and we can use his unused food credits after he leaves. I swear...I wish my brain wouldn't complicate things! LOL!

We spent on average $100 for 2 adults for table service including tips and usually no apps or drinks or desserts or maybe one of those per meal. Quick service is around 8 for a kid and 12-15 for adult. We actually looked at menus on Disney site for places we planned to eat at and calculated approx costs. We averaged about $100/2 adults per night of trip but didn’t eat a table service every day.
