I was looking at the prices on disney website for plated dinners and they seem crazy expensive. Most of the dishes were over 70 per person which is more than eating at some of their most expensive restaurants. I thought the food and beverage min would include the cocktail hour, dinner, cake, and bar, but if just the dinner is 70 per person that doesnt leave much room for any extras. My question is did any of you keep it to the 125 min at the Grand Floridan and if so, how did you do it??

There are way to save- do one dish like a nice chicken dish (then just have a note for vegetarians), a light ch like fruit/veggies/chees, a wine/beer bar etc ..then you can probably stay close to that. Also lunch recptions are a little less expensive- it all depends what you are looking for.

I was going to suggest lunch receptions, too. It's funny, because Disney prices are cheap compared to around me (Northern NJ/New York City area). Weddings are generally more courses than a regular dinner, too.

I am actually having a dinner reception. Is there certain food that would be cheaper. Can I not have desert and just serve wedding cake?

Sure! There's no reason you have to have dessert AND cake! One thing to watch out for - at my reception venue, the minimum expenditure does not include the cost of cake. So the cake cost will count toward my minimum expenditure per person, but not the overall room minimum.

Very confusing....they must have spreadsheets to figure out how to charge you....

For most locations the cake price is included in your food and bev minimum (like ballrooms) but I know like California Grill and some places like that it doesn't go towards the minimum.

Skip dessert. Why pay so much for a cake that everyone will be too full to eat.

Bear in mind, too, that the menus they give you are guidelines.

You can create your own menu, with your budget in mind.

How cutomizable is the meal? Cause we have a lot of ideas for what we want served but didn't know if Disney could do it.

they will do whatever you want. we added some diffrent items one my df even made up himself and they will do it. they are so accompdating in my experience. what kind of food ideas did you have??

Sure. I would just tell the coordinator your budget and then they won't show you choices outside that range. Any courses you skip (salad course, pasta course, intermezzo, dessert, appetizers) will lower your costs.

We're doing a morning ceremony in Epcot and then a brunch reception. A brunch buffet is less expensive then a dinner. Although we are also have a IllumiNations Desert Party. We will be having cake at the reception and desert at the party later that night. There will be a few hours in between for guests to go back to their resorts to rest and change if they want or spend some time in the parks.
