Food and "Boo"ze - An October 2016 PTR/TR UPDATED 11/28/16 x3

Looks like we'll have a lot Trip Reports during October. We head down the first week. We literally have no plans on where we're going on what days. I have no idea how anyone plans that far out....then again I've been so many times, I've seen it all! :)

Must be a Chicago/Milwaukee thing to want to get out of Dodge before the snow comes!

I knew October was a popular time to go now, but I had no idea it was this popular! I like your approach of "no plans"... and that's usually how I want my trip to be, but as you can see I definitely made a lot of plans. I just can't help myself!

I can't wait to experience Disney for Fall/Halloween. I'm sure I'll end up hooked after this trip and always feel the need to go South before the horrible winters we get!

Food & Wine List

Alright guys. I just took a good hour going through the Disney Food Blog's list of menu items for the Food and Wine festival. Not only am I hungry now, I'm concerned with how little time I've given myself to actually stroll around to eat and drink. There is a little more veggie options than I thought were out there, but a reasonable amount that we should be able to accomplish in our time on Friday from 11 AM to about 3:30 PM. It's the drinks that we're really going to have to cut down on!

Highlighted in pink are my absolute MUST do's. The beers in blue are ones that I think Mike would like, but I need to talk to him about them to see what he thinks. :drinking1

I hope that's readable! I'm not a huge dessert person, so I'm not even sure we'll get to those while we're going around the world. Plus, I feel like if I do get that waffle, that's basically like a dessert. I was kind of torn what category to put it under but it's one I do want to try more than your average dessert. There are also two cheese plates listed so I think I'll ask Mike to choose between the two. I've left space to add in prices once I actually find those out as well.

I really don't want to miss our dining reservation at Coral Reef... but I think we should be okay with this amount of food to still eat our dinners at Coral Reef and HDDR. When we did Flower and Garden, we both still needed to eat something more substantial... so I'm assuming this may be similar.

That's all for now! I'll keep you guys posted.

Yay, that's exciting that you will be going to Hollywood & Vine for the Halloween meal!

It's good that your making your F&W list ahead of time so you're not overwhelmed once you are there!

I'm not sure what I else I want to track in my bullet journal, but I am really excited about these pages!! They will definitely come in handy when I'm reporting back to you guys.
I can't wait to see the fruits of your labors. I am sure they will be fruity and enjoyable to read.

I'm here! Excited to hear more about your trip. Your plan so far sounds amazing! Jealous you'll be there for F and W! Your bullet journal looks really cool and efficient! I wish I had the time to create one. It sounds like a good way to make notes for your TR!

Hello and welcome!! Thanks for joining in. I've been following your Foodie TR and am loving itttt!!

I really love my bullet journal. I just started doing it about three weeks ago now and it was really time consuming at first to get it all set up, but now it's just a breeze and it's realllllly helping me mentally. I'm so glad I get to utilize it for our Disney trip!! :D

Halloween Horror Nights - What are we excited for?

With the release of all of the different houses/mazes, I asked Mike and Erik to tell me what houses they are most looking forward to and I've compiled my own list as well. I thought this would be interesting to look back at after the event to see how are expectations aligned with the actual event.

Mindy's List
9 - The Walking Dead
8 - American Horror Story
7 - Texas Chainsaw Massacre
6 - Ghost Town
5 - Lunatic's Playground 3D
4 - Halloween 2
3 - The Exorcist
2 - Tomb of the Ancients
1 - Krampus

Mike's List
9 - The Exorcist
8 - Texas Chainsaw Massacre
7 - Ghost Town
6 - The Walking Dead
5 - American Horror Story
4 - Tomb of the Ancients
3 - Krampus
2 - Lunatic's Playground 3D
1 - Halloween 2

Erik's List
9 - Lunatic's Playground 3D
8 - American Horror Story
7- The Exorcist
6 - Ghost Town
5 - Halloween 2
4 - The Walking Dead
3 - Texas Chainsaw Massacre
2 - Tomb of the Ancients
1 - Krampus

Soooo, overall mine and Erik's list match up pretty well. To be fair, I have yet to watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I've rented it two times so far and both times I've chickened out from watching it. I plan to watch it before we go... but I'm not sure. I just am so worried it'll be too gross and disturbing for me.

I also haven't finished Freak Show yet and I have yet to watch Hotel. My problem with American Horror Story as a haunted house is that the characters aren't really that scary. *
Spoilers and trigger warning - suicide* I'm even over Twisty being scary now that I know his background. Because Twisty tried to commit suicide and with my dad... I just don't feel so scared of him anymore. If anything I just want to give the poor guy a hug and tell him that he's needed in this world. That he does bring joy to children and is a great clown. Not to let people get you down and rule your life. *End spoilers* I feel like while the characters can be disturbing in AHS, once you know them and their background... it's just not as horrifying. I guess it'll be interesting to report back and see how I deal with Twisty since clowns are just scary, but I feel confident going into this house now.

I haven't watched all of The Walking Dead yet and I don't really have any plans to catch up. I believe I've made it through season three, but I just don't care about zombies?

I'm most excited about Tomb of Ancients and Krampus. I've always loved Egypt, pyramids, all of those kinds of stories, mummies... all of it. I also LOVE Christmas and Krampus was a fantastically awful movie - it as the best!! I can't wait to see that translate into a house.

My brother is really not looking forward to a 3D house so that's why he has that one so low.

Mike and Erik both think that The Exorcist just won't translate well into a house. I can see their points... it basically all takes place in one room so that'll be interesting to see what they do with that.

Well, that's it for now! I hope you all had a good holiday!

Hey guys. I wanted to post a link to the walk I am doing at the beginning of October so please read what I have been sending around and if you can help, I really appreciate it. If not, thank you so much for your support. I've been writing about my dad's passing since it happened here on the Dis Boards and all I've received is love and support which is more than I could have ever asked for. <3

On Sunday, October 2nd, I’ll be walking the Out of Darkness walk in honor of my dad to help raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). AFSP funds research, creates educational programs, advocates for public policy, and supports survivors of suicide loss. Through the donations they receive, they have been ableto set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

Please consider joining my team or donating to help AFSP reach their goal and continue to the good work they do. You can donate through the website at http://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=962132

Two Updates

Mike has plans to leave the house by 3 AM on Saturday, October 22nd. He said we should be able to drive down within 20 hours and wants to stay on Disney property. Sooooo, I'm looking into booking POP Century for that Saturday night to Sunday morning. I'm a little concerned to do this in advance because what if we don't get all the way down there? What if we're just too tired? Plus, we won't be arriving until about midnight or 1 AM if it only takes the 20 hours. I guess it'd be great to be able to just get there and be on property right away... Idk. i'm thinking about it, and it will most likely happen. I just need to bite the bullet and reserve it.

The second update goes along with the first. Since we'll supposedly already be on property so early, Mike and I booked a breakfast at 9:25 AM at The Wave on Sunday morning. We figured we could drive there to eat on the way to checking in to Old Key West. It's not really on the way, but it's close enough. Mike ate there without me back in February 2015 when I went to Ohana with my godchildren. The other friend we were with refused to do any sort of character dining. Ah well. So I'm excited to try The Wave out. It looks like it's pretty delicious. I know Mike enjoyed it when he went. :)

Dining Update

Well it's been a while, about two weeks, since I last changed a dining reservation. :rotfl:

I'm currently working on getting together my dining reservations for our March trip and I was checking menus and things. For fun, I looked at Jiko on the Disney World website and noticed A NEW VEGETARIAN OPTION!!

West African Koki Corn - Seasonal Vegetables, Avocado, Poblano-Tomattillo Purée, Roasted Red Pepper Sauce

This seems to have replaced the sambosas that I find to be far too sweet that I had on Thanksgiving last year. (Mike liked them, they just aren't my taste.) We had a really great meal here in May as well for Mike's birthday and clearly this is my favorite restaurant. I've always had wonderful service and the food is great. SO, I've cancelled Hoop Dee Doo Revue. Or, I'm in the process of cancelling. We need to call in order to cancel that one and get a refund. We've done HDDR before and Mike has it in his head that we'll be able to upgrade to Wilderness Lodge for our March trip and that's when we'll go to HDDR again. We'll see...

But for now, I'm super SUPER excited to be going back for the third time in one year to go to Jiko again. Plus, Animal Kingdom Lodge is AMAZING!!

The only issue we have with the idea is how we're getting back and forth to the restaurant. We may drive this time so that we can go back to our resort first to change after our day in the park. That means we can't go crazy and get another bottle of wine this time - but that's probably for the best!

I'M SO EXCITED!!! :jumping3:

Hi Mindy!! I am so, so, sorry about the loss of you dad last year. I have lost 2 cousins to suicide. I know that their immediate families struggle with this but also try to move forward and find the joy in life.

Now, the good news! My family of 5 will be at WDW the same week that you will be!! We are staying at Old Key West for one night, on Sat. Oct 22 after driving 15 hours from Philadelphia, PA. Then we check into AOA from the 23rd to 30th. Maybe we will run into to you guys!! Can't wait to read more!

Hi Danielle. Thank you for joining in for my report. :)

Also, thank you for your sympathies and I am sorry for your losses as well. :(

That's so crazy that we'll be there the same time! This seems like it will be a busy week. A lot of people seem to be going that week the more I write about it. Perhaps we will see each other and maybe in passing while we check in to OKW and you leave! lol I've always wanted to stay at AOA. My husband was thinking we should go there the first night since he thinks we'll actually get all the way onto Disney property that first day we are driving. 15 hours is a lot more doable than our 19! We'll see though. :)
