Any advice for vacationing in Orland (staying at a rental house) and visiting Disney and Universal? Need to avoid gluten, dairy and eggs.
Thanks
Veronica

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.

I dont know about Universal :confused3, I bet they do the same thing, but I know for sure in Disney tell anyone at the restaurants or counter services that you are gluten, dairy, and egg free and they will be more than happy to accommodate you. They'll find you something to eat even if they have to make something special :thumbsup2

I also have food allergies and have been successfully visiting WDW for 20+ years. As the OP have stated, please be sure that you talk to your server at the individual restaurants. If you don't feel comfortable with their "allergy awareness", ask to speak to the chef who will be preparing your meal. WDW is very allergy friendly. What I tend to do is pack my lunch at our vacation rental and carry it along in a cooler pack. I have never had any problems entering the park with food as I explain to the security bag checkers about my food allergies. As soon as they see my medic alert bracelet, they are very understanding. Even as to giving us directions as to where we can store my lunch in a disney fridge. I tend to pack a frozen water bottle as a freezer pack, so carry my lunch, snack etc with me. This method may seem a little labor intensive, but it saves so much time and aggravation for my family. They get to eat where they would like, and I don't have to worry about allergic reactions! Have a great time visiting the mouse! :woohoo:

when dining at a table service restaurant always let the hostess know that there are food allergies..you don't have to go into details with the hostess. They will print up an allergy ticket which will then be given to your server who will give it to the chef. Please do not wait and just tell your server.

If you have ressies, you can notify them ahead of time of your food allergies.

If it is at least 2 weeks until your reservation date, please email us at SpecialDiets@DisneyWorld.com with any food-allergy or food-intolerance concerns.

If it is within 2 weeks of your reservation, please call (407) 824-5967, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Calls outside of business hours will be returned the next business day. Guests under age 18 must have parent or guardian permission to call.

Finally, we request that you please confirm your dietary requests with the chef or manager on duty when you arrive at your dining location.

Our DD3 has dairy and oat allergies and every visit to WDW has been awesome and they are extremely accommodating about food allergies. At all of TS ressies, including buffets, the chef came out and discusses options for us and even offered to modify an entree for us. At the buffets, the chef walked around the stations with us to point out the safe foods and anything that they could make non-dairy or non-oat.

I second the motion of all the other posters when it comes to allergies and dining at WDW. I always make my dining reservations in advance and make a note on the reservation of my food allergy.

If you are just walking up to a restaurant w/o a reservation, tell the hostess.

As for Universal. I notified my server before ordering and he took great care of me. We ate at Mythos at Islands of Adventure.

Luckily for us allergy folks, people are so used to dealing with this issue it's becoming second nature.

Also, I am sure you too know which foods you should be avoiding, or your children should be avoiding.

Good luck and I hope this helps! :thumbsup2
