Food Allergy Questions ...

My son, age 2 has an egg allergy. Also, the allergist has asked us to avoid anything containing peanuts and tree nuts, until he is tested again.

SO, when I made my ADRs I told the CM I had a child with an egg allergy and she noted it on my reservations. I have a few questions though from anyone who has encountered the same problems ...

Since my son is 2 ... he *technically* does not get a meal on the dining plan. I plan on him sharing with either myself or my DD depending on portions. Can I simply tell the chef to alter my meal or my daughters or will they give me a hard time because WE are not the ones with the allergy?

Also, IF my son shares with my DD, and all the options on the childrens menu contain egg .. what do they do? I have found most pizza crust as well as chicken finger batter and some mac n cheese (in the noodles) contain egg ... Will they make them something else or offer items off the adult menu?

I just want to be as prepared as possible ... Since I noted the allergy in my ADRs, do I need to call anyone else or just speak with the chef when we arrive?

Thanks so much!!

I don't have any experience with this first hand, but I've heard that the chefs are very good about accommodating people, & just talk to him/her when you get there.

our youngest daughter has a peanut tree nut allergy... as long as you have the specific allergy noted when you made the reservation you will be fine. usually when you check into the restauarant, they know about the allergy - our always had it stamped in big red on their slip that the server had, so the chef will come out and talk to you.. if it's a buffet, he will take you around to tell you about every food item on the buffet. When we were at CMs our last trip, one of the chefs even made up a special plate of food for our daughter and brought it out. As for sit down meals, they will still come out and say how the food is prepared and what we could or couldn't order.. also will accomodate the allergy. AFter a few meals we knew what we could and couldn't get her to eat.

if for some reason the server wouldn't mention, then tell them so they can get the chef out to talk with you.

When we went in 2006 our daughter was 2 and she has MANY food allergies. At the buffets the chef walked us through and many times, because it's a buffet and there is a HIGH risk of cross contamination, they brought her a specially prepared meal...at NO cost. She also received her own specially prepared meals at table service meals...at NO cost. They were very helpful and always made sure she had something safe to eat, at no cost to us. Now, counter service meals you obviously would have to pay for her meal. Any other questions feel free to ask.

Keep in mind that the cashiers can be tough at counter service. ASK for a chef or manager before you order if your child cannot eat off the kids menu. They will work with you. The cashiers sometimes do not bend and will try and tell you that kids must order off the kids menu. My son has had burgers off the adult menu when none are available for kids meals.

My son also has a serious peanut/tree nut allergy. The chefs were absolutely wonderful. I mentioned it to our server right away if he or she didn't mention it to me...then it was like everyone mentioned above. The chef will come out and discuss, telling you the options you have, and showing you what to avoid on the buffets. Several times they DID make special plates up for my son. One chef made him this AMAZING dessert that wasn't on the menu. When he brought it out, all of the other tables were ooo-ing and ah-ing over it. They
definitely go above & beyond in ensuring that the person is happy and well fed.

My son had a peanut and strawberry allergy on our last 2 trips and everywhere we went they were very accomodating. I always told them when i booked the reservation and when we arrived. We did do Chef Mickeys because I really wanted too and the chef came out told us what had peanuts and what was close to peanuts. They even made him a mickey waffle in the back since it was close to peanuts!

We were unaware of my son's allergies when we went last year, but now we know he is allergic to nuts and eggs. The pizza there really has egg?
