Food allergies at Disneyland

So, I've read that Disney is a wonderful place to go with food allergies. However, I think my son would prove to be too challenging. This summer, we did food allergy testing, and he is allergic to wheat, corn, milk, eggs, peanuts, potatoes, tomatoes, apples, oranges, and grapes. There is nothing left! He would be forced to eat lettuce, and likely couldn't have that, because it was probably touching the tomatoes at the salad bar. Or we may have to go only to specific Disney restaurants, and have to carefully cater a pricey menu to what he can have.

This does not sound fun to me. Has anyone here done this? We don't have a Disney trip in the works right now, but we would like to go again next spring or summer. If it's even reasonable for us to do so.

Call Disney Dining.
Ask to be put through to Chef Chris.
Leave him a detailed message.
Wait for him to call you back.
Have an excellent chat with him about what your son can eat, what they might be able to make for him (and when and where), and be happy! :)

I talked to him a month or 2 ago when it was rumored that the vegetarian items weren't vegetarian. He was shocked that the rumor had started, reassured me that he had spoken to his chefs to make sure that things were vegetarian (even things that aren't labeled as such, like the beans and rice at the Mexican restaurants). We had a fun chat about high fructose corn syrup, too, which really freaked him out that he didn't know his beloved snack of Uncrustables were so full of crud. :)

And he told me that they had recently made a lasagna of sorts for a man who was raw vegan. If they can make something like that without heating things to any sort of normal temperature, they can certainly help you in some way. :goodvibes

Maybe they should be called instead UnCrudables! he he

There was an article in the paper here about a little boy who is allergic to food. ALL food. It has some long name. He is in pain when he eats anything at all. So I know it is possible. Like they said, call and see what they can do. And bring plenty of your own food to have on hand for him too.

It's amazing how many children (and adults) are getting more and more food allergies these days. I have a good friend whose children are allergic to everything on the OP's list + more (soy, garlic & most meat).

If *they* keep messing with our produce and genetically altering our food -- what do we expect?

Ok, off my very OT tangant! :)

While this is not an issue for my family, I have traveled to both DLR and WDW with my sorority sister and her family. Her oldest DS has many, many food allergies like the ones that OP mentioned and is even allergic to his own sweat!

The chefs of every table service restaurant that we have dined at have been amazing. She always calls ahead, then reminds the server at the restaurant and they typically send the head chef on duty out to talk to us. They are always amazing to work with, and often times his meal looks better than what everyone else is eating!

Also, Disney works with the family at buffet and family style meals to provide safe options for her DS. For instance when they dined at Ohana (which is served family style) at the Poly in WDW last trip, DS with allergies was served filet mignon from Kona Cafe instead!

Please don't be afraid to go back to Disney just because your child has food allergies. In the same way the Disney creates magic for those with other disabilities, they do everything in their power to create a memorable, but safe experience for those with food issues!
