flying with sinus infection

We are leaving for WDW tomorrow night, and I have had a bad sinus infection all week. I'm afraid the two-plane trip (more ear popping) and all that dry air will make it worse and I will arrive with a raging sore throat and fever. (Plus when we get there we will be in and out of air conditioning and rain and hot waether etc. I think I got this from a change in weather to begin with, unless it is an allergy to my house/yard since I got it as soon as we were back home rom a car trip!) Too bad planes don't have humidifiers -- and chicken soup :) Has anyone flown with this illness and what were the results?

Thanks :)

Yes, but I went and saw my ENT beforehand. She gave me some good meds and also a cortisone shot to help with inflammation.

Yup, I've done it quite a few times. Not fun. About 15 mins before you board the plane, use a nasal decongestant spray. It'll open everything up, hopefully allow you to clear your ears. Follow the directions on the package... I think you can use it once every 4-6 hours. Drink LOTS of water. Be vigilant about taking your antibiotics and any other stuff the Dr recommended on time. (I'm assuming you've been to the doctor... if you haven't GO before your trip! You don't want to be miserable the whole time you're gone! THIS IS YOUR MOTHER SPEAKING! LOL)

Anyway, hope that helps. Have a fantastic trip, and I hope you feel better!

Yes, I have... more than once :o Usually I just take a strong decongestant before I go on the plane and some ibuprofen for the inflamation. I also am sure I drink *TONS* of water to help with it all. Good thing is, for me, the sinus infection usually gets *better* after a couple days in Florida. Don't mind flying with them when that happens ;)

I had a bad experience with this before. try taking decongestants before you board, it seemed to help a littl! Good luck!:sunny:

I agree with the decongestant and water advice. It's worked for me in the past. Another thing I would recommend, if it's ear popping you're worried about, is picking up some EarPlanes. These work *great* for me.

If you haven't heard of them, they're little earplugs that keep the pressure in your ears equal during ascent and descent. If the pressure starts to build, they make your ears pop. You can get them in the drugstore for less than $10. Highly, highly recommended. (And I get a sinus infection pretty well every time I travel, so I'm always congested on the way home! lol!)

Hope you're feeling better!

Try to get some earplanes to put in your ears before you go. I always have sinus problems and I won't fly without these. They make it a lot more bearable. I've had such bad pain before I was intears, but not since wearing eaplanes. My DS wears them too.
You can get them in most drugstores.

Thanks, guys, I did not feel like going out, but I may go to the drugstore and look for Earplanes -- I had never heard of those!

As for the comment about feeling better in FL. it is probably the moisture in the air -- I love what it does to my skin and hair too every time we go!

Cheers :)
