Flying with an aircast?

(Hope this is ok to ask here- trying to think where in my cyber-world could ask and this seemed the best possibility!)

I messed up my foot and just got put in an aircast/walking boot. We leave on vacation Sunday. (Not Disney, which I'm kind of happy about. Going to Colorado- will be a less walking intensive trip!)

I'm curious about going through security- it doesn't look like it has any metal, but I'm thinking I can't just walk through the metal detector. I have read TSA's site and know they can't make me take it off- honestly though if the option's going to be a patdown , I'd just as soon take it off and hop through the metal detector. It will be Portland ME and Denver, if that makes any difference. (I'm sure there are hundreds of folks here flying through Portland, lol.)

Secondly, I'm concerned about our connections. We've got a scheduled hour at each, but who knows what it will end up being. Is there anyway to verify gates ahead of time at the connection airports? (I'm thinking probably not, but...) I can walk, but not with any rate of speed. If it ends up we have one of those multi-terminal connections, I'm worried about making it. (It's Delta through Atlanta going there and Detroit coming back. IIRC, Delta's gates are all right together in Atlanta, I vaguely recall having to change terminals and a tunnel under the runway in Detroit, though?)

Thanks for any insight!

Contact your airline. They will have a wheelchair and pusher waiting for you at your arrival gate and will be wheeled to your departure gate. Tipping of the pusher is expected.

Maybe request a wheelchair be at the gate for you to use? That way you can be pushed thru the airport quicker than you could walk. Or at Detroit metro they have golf carts that they use. We've gotten a ride on it before when we had my young niece and we were running to meet my bil's airplane (returning from deployment).

Thank you! I've been trying to call Delta to talk to a real person and get a "try again later", then it hangs up!

What is an appropriate tip if I end up with a pusher? Thanks!
