I'm from the Chicago area and I was wonder how people in this area fly to HHI. I know SW airlines doesn't fly there. Can anyone help on this? :confused3

Last year, we flew AirTran (out of Midway) into Atlanta, had a couple hour lay over and then flew from Atlanta to Savannah. It's a quick drive from Savannah to Hilton Head.

I have not been able to find a direct flight from Chicago to Savannah that didn't cost me an arm & a leg in airfare. I'll be anxiously awaiting other replies as we're off to Hilton Head in March. We've done the drive several years, but now that we've flown some, it's hard to go back to a 16 hour drive.
Have a great trip!

This might sound nuts, but we fly from Indy to Jacksonville on SWA and then drive 3 hours - we figure it would take us that long to connect, which we HATE to do. Sometimes we even spend the weekend before at WDW (flying into MCO) and then drive the 5 hours to HH.

Tomorrow we'll be flying Continental into Savannah. Isn't Chicago a hub for United? I'm not sure, but I think they're the one that flies all the way onto the island. However, you might be better off flying to Savannah.

Actually, it's US Air that flies directly to Hilton Head, but usually requires a change of planes in Charlotte.

All of the above plans are good, especially since you will want to rent a car for the trip anyhow. (Hilton Head doesn't have much in the way of "public transportation".) A couple other cities to try are Charleston (SC) and Columbia (SC). Both are about a two-hour drive from HH.

We are going for Thanksgiving and our oldest daughter is meeting us there on Wednesday. She is flying into Savannah on Delta out of Bloomington, IL. Savannah is only about an hour or so from HH.

If you drive from Sav/HHI airport, please be careful. The roads are driven by insane people who thing that the Speed Limit is just a suggestion and then they wonder why they get killed in wrecks.

Also, NEVER NEVER NEVER speed though the town of Blufton. They are crooks. They use to have 'color' days. If you drove a red car on 'red' day, you got stopped and were given a ticket for speeding, weither you were speeding or not. It's not quite that bad now.

Also, if you want a Christmas Tree for your stay, there is a great Christmas tree farm, Landcaster's CTF, on the road to HHI. It's where we buy ours every year.
